  2. Epidemiological Information for American Samoa(Total population – 68,000) • Prior to 2001 - No locally diagnosed HIV or AIDS cases • June of 2001 - Two locally diagnosed cases of HIV infection • Since 2001 - No locally diagnosed HIV or AIDS cases

HIV/AIDS PROGRAM GOALSPERINATAL TRANSMISSION PREVENTION • No unborn child in American Samoa shall be denied the right to be protected from its mother’s HIV virus before the day of his or her birth. • Promote and provide routine, universal screening for every pregnant women as early as possible in her pregnancy.

HE/RR OUTREACH TARGET POPULATIONS • Collegestudents • Nursing schools students • Public and private school students Grades 6-12 • Church youth groups • Women’s community action organizations • Cannery workers (2 canneries) • Local athletes who travel to other Pacific islands • Government agencies (in service workshops • Prison inmates
