  1. Courage in Entertainment Created by Caroline Coats and Abbie Browning English II October 24, 2013 3rd Period

  2. COURAGE “the ability to do something that frightens one.” Courage is a hard thing to have.

  3. Courage in Oedipus Rex “OEDIPUS: Creon! Creon! What shall I say to him? How can I justly hope that he will trust me? In what is past I have been proved towards him an utter liar.” Oedipus then faced Creon. Even though he eventually spoke to him, he still had the courage to speak to him. CC

  4. Courage in Night Face Up “He managed to close his eyelids again, although he knew now he was not going to wake up, that he was awake, that the marvelous dream had been the other, absurd as all dreams are..” The main character in Night Face Up was too afraid to face his harsh reality that he closed his eyes to try and escape to the hospital once again. His lack of courage showed in the end of the story and was eventually his bitter end. AB

  5. Courage in Mulan GRANDMA FAMulan is gone. In ancient China, society was male-centered. Women were uneducated and viewed as lesser beings than men. However, in Mulan this is ironic. Mulan saves the entirety of China from a man, and ends up bringing her father the greatest honor a child could bring. Sure, she was thrown out into the snow after her fellow troops found out, but she still saved the king of China and all of his citizens, and that took a lot of courage. AB

  6. Courage in Finding Nemo MARLIN No, no. They took him away. I have to find the boat. Everyone has seen Finding Nemo, and although it’s a kids movie, it still has courage embedded in it. It took a lot of courage for Marlin, a fish afraid of the ocean, to cross the very thing he was afraid of to find his only son. It was tough; but he faced his fears, and displayed a lot of courage throughout the entire film. CC

  7. Courage in Songs Toby Mac – Get Back Up “It's never too late, to get back up againYou may be knocked down, but not out forever,May be knocked down, but not out forever” This song talks about how if you get knocked down, you have to have the courage to get back up. Even if you feel like breaking down, you have the courage to get back up, and you should use it, even though it’s difficult. AB

  8. Courage in Songs Best of You – Foo Fighters “I was too weak to give inToo strong to lose” In this song the band states how when you’re knocked down, you have to be strong and have the courage to not give in to losing. Even though it’s hard, you’re too strong to lose, and you need to have enough courage to get back up. CC

  9. Text-to-Self When I broke my foot, it was hard for me to face my fears of walking. In fact, it was too hard. I ended up getting carried away by my father, because I couldn’t find enough courage to walk after it happened. I lacked the courage to get up because it scared me so much. Courage, as defined by Webster, is ‘the ability to do something that frightens one’, and I lacked the ability to face my fears. AB

  10. Text-to-Self When I was in elementary school, I was younger than most of the kids in my grade, and I was shy. I kept to myself and didn’t really have any friends. There were some girls in my class that were really mean to everyone, but especially me. They picked on me, called me mean names, and pushed me around. I told myself to ignore it and let it go, but it was hard. It would get so bad that I would fake being sick just so I didn’t have to go to school. My brother eventually found out what was happening and told me to stand up for myself and to not like them push me around. So the next day, I did just that. They came up to me and I told them to leave me alone. They just laughed and started insulting me. When I found my brother that day, he asked what had happened. I told him that they still bullied me, so he told me to go to my teacher and I did. She made them leave me and everyone alone. I eventually made friends and I asked my teacher not to tell my parents, so she didn’t . She didn’t need to; everything had been handled. My brother gave me the courage to stand up for myself that day. CC

  11. Courage in Entertainment Courage is a hard thing to have, and this is displayed in many different works– from ancient plays to songs to our own lives. It is displayed differently in many texts. It takes a lot of strength to display courage, but it’s a trait you should always aspire to have. AB
