  1. Ultimate Guide to The London Zoo – All You Need to Know The London Zoo, sometimes called Regent’s Zoo, is not only the world’s oldest scientific zoo, but is a historically relevant one as well. That’s why many tourists, both young and old, make it a point to visit whenever they’re in the city. The zoo opened on the 27th of April 1828 and was initially expected to be a collection of specimens for scientific study. In 1847, it was officially opened to the public, during which time the animals house at the Tower of London were transferred to the zoo. It is currently home to 698 species of animals making it one of the largest in the United Kingdom. The zoo is located at NW1 4RY, United Kingdom and can be accessed via the tube. It’s only a 20-minute walk away from Regent’s Park Station, but if you’re coming from the direction of Camden Town it is about a 15-minute walk away. The nearest station is Euston station. They open at 10 am daily, with the exception of Christmas. Closing times may vary depending on the time of the year. From March to September, they close at 6 pm. From September to October, they close at 5:30 pm. From November to March, they close at 4pm. Ticket costs £24.26 to £32.25 for adults. For children ages three to 15 it’s £17.60 to £24.90. Discounts are also available for students, seniors or disabled adults. Children under the ages of three can get it for free. Group and families can get discount package ticket options from £75 to 82.65. The zoo is split into different sections such as: Fruit Bat Forest, the African Bird Safari, Butterfly Paradise and Reptile House. There’s also a section dedicated to creepy-crawlies and it houses some of the most unique insects. If you’re looking for exotic animals then visit the Land of Lion's exhibitions as well as The Tiger Territory, The Gorilla Kingdom and Into Africa. There is also a petting zoo area in the Animal Adventure section where you get to interact with sheep, donkeys, pigs and more. They also have indoor Rainforest exhibits, Australian-themed-exhibits, and Penguin Beach exhibits. They offer locally sourced and seasonal meals which cater to every diet preference. Terrace Restaurant is situated in Barclay Court, opposite the Amphitheatre and next to the Zoo shop and exit. If you’re craving for sweet treats then you’ll find plenty of great snacks at the Aquarium kiosk near the entrance to the Zoo and next to the Aquarium.
