  9. Project Purpose • Enhance safety and mobility of roadway users • Improve traffic flow • Improve roadway pavement and bridge condition • Upgrade existing drainage • Meet current INDOT geometric design standards for 55 mph design speed

  10. Project Need • Narrow travel lane widths • Lack of shoulders • Non-traversable ditch side slopes • Substandard bridge safety • Improve sight distance • Improve roadside safety

Project Description City of Austin to 1,200 ft. east of S.R. 203 • Total project length - 5.0 miles • Two 12 ft. wide travel lanes • 6 ft. wide usable shoulder (4 ft. paved) • Driveway reconstruction • Realigned S.R. 256 and Coffee Pot Rd. near Austin Cemetery • Replace bridge over Hutto Creek

  12. Project Description • Small drainage structure replacement at various locations • Public road approaches at intersections • Passing blister and mailbox approaches • Exclusive left turn lane at S.R. 203 • Pavement markings & signage

Maintenance of Traffic • Maintain local access to all residences, schools, and businesses during construction using side streets, temporary entrances, or other appropriate means • Detour through-traffic to State maintained routes using portions of U.S. 31, S.R. 56, and S.R. 3 • Close S.R. 256 to through-traffic during construction • Local access maintained via local detour during bridge and culvert(s) construction

Real Estate Acquisition • Uniform Act of 1970 as amended by the Uniform Relocation Act of 1987 • All federal, state, and local governments must comply established standards • Acquisition Process • Appraisals • Review Appraisals • Negotiations • Process requires just compensation • INDOT real estate representatives will contact property owners and work with them through process
