The landscape of HOA piracy is shifting, with notable trends suggesting an escalation in attacks rather than improvements. In 2010, the IMB recorded 218 attacks, with 49 resulting in hijacks, indicating a plateau compared to 2009 but a broader geographic spread, including areas like the Maldives, the Mozambique Channel, and the West coast of India. By Q1 2011, there had already been 100 attacks and 15 hijacks, impacting 300 hostages. This marks a significant increase compared to Q1 2010, highlighting the ongoing challenges in combating piracy in these regions.
