  1. Clemson Mac Laptop Setup Workshop You must be on campus to complete this tutorial!!!!!!!! Note: due to updates, your screens may look slightly different, but the process should be basically the same. This presentation was recorded on 5/31/2013

  28. AppleCare Registration • If you received a box, you might need to register your plan. • Open the box when you get home and follow the directions within.

  30. Back Up Your Data!!! If your laptop requires service from CCIT, we will not backup your data for you. You are responsible for backing up your data.

  32. Pawprints • Open any document or browser window • Click on File, Print

  33. Pawprints • Under Printer, you should see CCIT Lab Printers • Click Print

  34. Pawprints • Give your print job a name (optional) • Put in your Clemson user ID • Click Continue

  35. Pawprints • Put in your Clemson password • Click Print • Pick up your printout at a public printer

  36. Clemson Google LogIn • Login at http://g.clemson.edu • Clemson userid • Default password is cu##1234 (where 1234 represents last 4-digits of SSN) • If this does not work, we will show you how to change your password

Reset Google Apps Password If you are having problems logging in to Google Apps, here is how to get a new password: • Go to www.clemson.edu/emailforwarding • Log in with your Clemson user name and password • Click on the words “Reset my Google Apps password” • A new temporary password will appear on the screen. • Copy it to the clipboard.

  38. Log in to Clemson Google Apps Login at http://g.clemson.edu

  39. Change Your Password 1. Click on the arrow beside your name in the upper right hand corner. 5. Paste your temporary password in the current password box. Invent a new password, repeat the new password to confirm. Click Change Password. 2. Click on Account 3. Click on security 4. Click on Change password

  40. Ask Postman • If you get messages from “askpostman” – open them!!!! That is the Clemson spam filter and you may find good messages in there.

  41. Google Apps • Note space at bottom • Trash is under More • Askpostman is Clemson spam filter • Click on dots for Calendar, Drive, Sites

Install Google Drive • Click on Drive • Click on Download Drive for PC • It will make a folder in your documents where you can drag and drop files or folders • 30 GB combined email + Sites + Drive In some cases, you may have done the “Download Drive” during the software installation process and you will not see this option because it is already complete.

  45. Wireless Registration • Close all browser windows • Unplug your Ethernet cable and wait a few seconds • Open a browser • It should go to the Wireless network registration screen • Click Go

  46. Wireless Registration • Change your description to CU User Name – Macbook – Wireless • Click Accept • Wait a few minutes before opening a browser

Windows 8 Install Considerations • Recommended for all Clemson students • Requires same upkeep as a PC laptop • Not all majors require Windows software, but may be required in some general education or elective classes • Average install length is 1.5 hours. • Must press Option and select Windows on each reboot

Why Windows? • Technical Applications • Adobe Applications • MS Office • Access • One Note • Publisher • Differences in others – especially PowerPoint • Compatibility with podiums and instructors • Movie Maker required in some classes • Other specialized Windows software required in some classes
