Lymphatic filariasis • Mosquito-borne Wuchereria bancrofti • Larvae migrate from bite site to lymphatics and mature with a host inflammatory/granulomatous response • Immature microfilariae released into bloodstream can cause an IgE allergic response with eosinophilia (tropical pulmonary eosinophilia, Loeffler’s endomyocarditis)

  3. Lymphatic obstruction • Elephantiasis (gross chronic lymphoedema)

  4. Other causes of lymphatic obstruction • Carcinomatous disease • Surgical removal of lymphatics • Irradiation
