Project Overview • Intelligent Cruise Control System • Motivation for project – Increase fuel efficiency – Improve traffic flow – Reduce collisions
Overview of Features •Assisted Cruise Control •Cooperative Assisted Cruise Control •Lane Keeping/Centering •Curve Speed Assist
Assisted Cruise Control • Works as normal Cruise Control • Accelerate/decelerate in response to other vehicles -If approaching slow moving vehicle decelerate -Keep appropriate gap
Cooperative Assisted Cruise Control • ACC with communication between vehicles -Via a transponder • Platoon of vehicles cooperate • Maintain gap and speed set by platoon leader
Lane Keeping • Cameras used to detect lane-lines • Works in optimal conditions only • Warning lights
Curve Speed Assist • GPS determines curve location/gradient • Acceleration/deceleration preempt according to GPS information
Domain Research •Investigated adaptive cruise control •Extended functionality for platoon formation •Project Constraints –Maintaining customer privacy –Limited to use in highway environment –Requires multiple CACC-enabled vehicles –Constant access to internet for VNA
