IT Applications Programme • Introduction to the use of  ICT and web technologies in a business environment • Develop professional and work-related IT skills • Learn how to apply these skills in commercial and not-for-profit organisations • Obtain a Certificate of Continuing Education (4 modules)

  6. IT Applications Programme • Progress to a Certificate of Higher Education (4 modules) or Foundation Degree (2 years of study) • No formal entry qualification but require good level of IT skills • Flexible start • Study in evening or on Saturday

  9. Foundation Degrees • No formal entry requirement • Entry based on short selection test – English, maths, IT • Two years and two terms of study • Obtain a recognised qualification (FdSc) • Progress to an honours degree (BSc)

BSc Computing – part-time • 4yr BSc in Computing, part-time evening, Y1 entry • Admission via selection test, A-levels or equivalent • Also “follow-on” from our FdIT and FdWT – two more years part-time study, Y3 entry • Accept entrants with equivalent degrees • Equivalent of six 15-credit modules per year • 3 evenings per week • 17 compulsory modules; 7 choices from many options

BSc Computing – full-time • 3yr BSc in Computing, full-time evening, Y1 entry • Admission via A-levels or equivalent qualifications • Applications only through UCAS • At least 280 UCAS points, normally at least BBC • At least one A-level in mathematics or science • GCSEs in mathematics and English; at least a B in each • Equivalent of eight 15-credit modules per year • 4 evenings per week • Same module choices as part-time option

  14. BSc Information Systems & Management For those entry to a career in Information Systems Aims to equip students with programming, IS and Management skills & knowledge Obtain a recognised qualification (BSc) 14

MSc Computer Science For holders of degrees in a subject other than computing Facilitates entry to the Computing industry, through knowledge of: Object-oriented programming, analysis and design Information systems, database management, internet technologies, computer systems, foundations of computing Other specialist options in computing 17

  18. MSc Information Technology • For holders of degrees in a subject other than computing • Facilitates entry to the IT industry, through knowledge of: • Information Systems Development • Management topics • Professionalism in IT • Specialist options in computing and management

MSc Computing for Financial Services For holders of non-computing degrees Facilitates entry to Computing professions specifically in the Finance sector, through knowledge of: Theory and practice of financial markets and portfolio management Object-oriented programming, analysis and design Software engineering tools and environments Database Management Other specialist options in computing 19

MSc Advanced Computing Technologies • For those who already have a degree in Computer Science, or equivalent • Pathways lead to awards: • MSc Advanced Computing Technologies • MSc Information and Web Technologies • MSc Intelligent Technologies • MSc Data Analytics • Specialised modules covering advanced technologies and recent research developments

PG Cert Cloud and Data Technologies • For those who already have a degree in Computer Science, or equivalent • Specialised modules covering cloud and data technologies and recent research developments • May be followed 1 or 2 years part-time • Successful students may proceed to the final year part-time of MSc Advanced Computing Technologies

MSc Information Systems & Management A mid-career programme For those with a degree in Computing, Information Systems or Management Focuses on Project Management Some exemption available for holders of PRINCE2 Foundation & Practitioner Facilitates a wide range of socio-technical innovation studies 22

MSc in Learning Technologies For those wishing to gain specialist knowledge of developing learning technologies First degree may be in Computing or in another subject (there are 2 routes through the degree) Twin focus on both the computer science and the learning theory underpinning the optimal development of learning technologies Jointly taught by LKL staff from Birkbeck and the Institute of Education 23

MSc Creative Industries (Computing Pathway) For those with a background in either computing or creative industries Two different sets of compulsory computer science modules for students with and without significant computing experience respectively The opportunity to cross disciplines and explore topics in journalism, screenwriting, digital media, arts management, web design, and computer programming 24

MRes Computer Science For those wishing to advance their knowledge of an area of research interest and research methods before embarking on an MPhil/PhD research degree; or apply the specialist knowledge gained on this degree in their career Consists of Dissertation: relating to a research project A Research Methods module Three further specialist taught modules 25
