The Technical College System of Georgia • The Technical College System of Georgia curriculum programs are standardized, based on business and industry requirements across the state. • Standards are designed to prepare students for careers in specific professions. The student learning opportunities develop academic, technical, and professional knowledge and skills required for job acquisition, retention, and advancement. • Programs are available at the associate degree, diploma, and technical certificate of credits.

Once in technical College Always in? • If you did not meet the requirements for a 4-year research institution, and decided to start your college at a technical or state school you can transfer to any 4-year institution after successfully completing 2 years in the technical college system. • Many colleges have a guaranteed transfer admission program for students who desire to transfer to several 4-year schools.

  4. How do you know Which college is right for you? • Ask yourself:1. What career(s) am I interested in? 2. What experience and/or additional education is required to work in this field? 3. Do I have the prerequisites I need to move in to this career from high school? How can I get there from here… • Determine your GPA/ College Entrance Exam Scores (SAT, ACT) • How do they compare to the colleges you are interested in? • What are the minimum requirements for admissions and do I meet them?

Here are some fast facts you should know In-Demand Programs – Real Careers • Technical Colleges offer small classes, hands-on experiences and more instructor attention. • TCSG Graduates are filling the nations skill gap by filling jobs requiring 21st Century skills and knowledge (including healthcare, aerospace, biotechnology, agribusiness, energy, logistics and transportation) • TCSG Graduates can earn a Technical Certificate, Diploma, or even associates degrees • TCSG students are eligible for the HOPE grant (Diploma and Certificate programs) regardless of GPA (once enrolled must maintain a 2.0)

TCSG Admission Requirements • Must be at least 16 years of age • Must have a high school diploma or a GED from accredited school • Must take a placement test (COMPASS or ASSET) or present acceptable scores on SAT or ACT • Complete Application and submit transcripts and fee (Check deadlines specific to each school) • SAT scores (Range – varies by school) • 430 – 480 Critical Reading • 400 - 440 Math • ACT Scores (Range – varies by school) • 13-19 Reading • 12-19 Writing • 17-19 Math

Beyond the technical College:State Universities & Colleges • State Colleges and Universities offer a smaller atmosphere with more attention but still provide the academic rigor and extensive programs of a larger university • You can continue into a graduate program in specific areas if you wish • Admissions deadlines vary by school so check admission dates (Some are rolling) • GPA – Many state universities use the Freshman Index • Total SAT score + (500 x High School Academic GPA)
