  1. Kindergarten Meet the Teacher2012-2013 The Team: Shaunna McFarland Lee Ann Wilson IvetteTrevizo– Dual Language Veronica Robles– Dual Language Jana Mueller Courtney Spivey

Procedures • Drop off your child in the cafeteria before 7:10 • If your child will be eating breakfast it will be served between 7:10-7:30 • If your child is dropped off between 7:30-7:40 they may go directly to their classroom. • Car riders will be picked up in the front of the school. Please do not get out of your car. We will bring your child to you.

  3. Lunch/Breakfast • Lunch is $2.15 • Breakfast is $1.35 • You can make deposits on line or send in money to the cafeteria for your child’s meal account. • Children are allowed 3 charges and then they are provided with a tray that does not include the main entrée until their account is paid. • You must complete a new lunch form each year to qualify for free or reduced meals.

  4. Attendance • Texas Compulsory Attendance law requires that students must be in attendance 90% of the school year in order to receive credit for that year. An absence can be all day or partial day. Tardies can be considered for this state law and also for truancy. • Attendance and being on time is IMPORTANT! • AGAIN for 2012-2013 Students arriving late will need an adult to sign them into school in the office. • Your child should be at school unless they are sick. • If you have a scheduled appointment for something other than illness, it is important that your child attend school for the other part of the school day. • School starts at 7:40 and dismisses at 2:40. • Truancy will be filed on your student if they miss school excessively and the absences are not excused.

  5. CHAMPS • Eagle Mountain Saginaw ISD will be using CHAMPS for our behavior management piece in the classroom. This program will give specific expectations to students.  Students will have consequences based on HOW I ACT.  • Please refer to Student code of Conduct for any questions on consequences that can be issued.

  6. Behavior - HOWIACT Northbrook Elementary Student Expectaions: Hullabaloo: I will stay on task in class. Outside: I will have appropriate behavior outside of the classroom. Work: I will complete assignments on time. Inside Voice: I will use my inside voice appropriately. Attitude: I will be respectful to classmates and adults. Courtesy: I will keep my hands, feet, and objects to self. Talking: I will talk only at appropriate times.

  7. Behavior - HOWIACT • Sent home in the front of the purple folder • Must be signed EVERY night! • Everyday is a new day. If a color is changed the child may move back one color if their behavior improves. ☺ ☺ ☺ ☺ ☺ T ☺ ☺ ☺ ☺ ☺ H A

  9. Conduct Grade • 9 week Conduct Grading Scale • 0 Yellow/0 Red—Excellent • 0-5 Yellow/ 0 Red— Satisfactory • 5-10 Yellow/ 1-3 Red—Needs Improvement • 10+ Yellow/ 4+ Red— Unsatisfactory

  10. Homework • Each child will receive homework daily. Please initial the homework calendar each night when it is completed. • Guided Reading • Later in the year students will be taking home Guided Reading books. These need to be read and returned to school on a DAILY bases.

  11. Reading • Throughout the year your child is expected to master the following concepts: • Letter identification and sounds • Identify and read High Frequency words • Identify and produce Rhyming Words • Blend, segment, and manipulate sounds in words • Retell the sequence of a story and important events

  12. Developmental Reading Assessment (DRA) Middle of the year your child is expected to read independently at or above DRA Level 2. By the End of the year your child is expected to read independently at or above a DRA Level 4.

  13. Writing Your child should be able to write: • Capital and lower case letters of the alphabet • Their name and other important words • The sounds they hear in words • Complete Sentences

  14. Math • Recognize and write numbers • Count to 100 • Make a set number of objects up to 20 • Identify, extend and create patterns • Identify ordinal positions (1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 5th) • Add and subtract numbers • Identify a missing number in a pattern (6,__,8)

  15. Science • Five Senses • Living and Non-Living • Life cycles • Changes in the environment • Seasons and Weather • We use science journals in class to help review weekly concepts. This journal will be sent home at the end of the year.

  16. Social Studies • Holidays and special events • Community Helpers • Purpose of Rules and Authority figures • Geography • Needs and Wants • Culture and traditions around the world

  17. How can I help at home? • Read with your child for 10 minutes EVERY NIGHT!!! • Complete Homework nightly! • Ask your child questions about what he/she has learned each day at school.

  18. Northbrook is Title I • How did we become a Title I Campus? • Based on the number of Students who qualify for Free or Reduced Lunch in the School District. • At Northbrook in the 2011-2012 School year, we had 65.6% of our students qualify. • What does this mean for our campus? • Title I is a federal program designed to help students who need additional support in Reading or Math—not only students who qualify for Free or Reduced Lunch. • We receive federal funds because of our Title I status. • At Northbrook, Title I money is used to fund 2 teachers: Our Math Specialist and our Reading Specialist.
