  2. Japan • Japan is an island nation in east Asia. • Japan is an archipelago of 6,852 islands. • The four largest islands are Honshu, Hokkaido, Kyushu and Shikoku, together comprising about ninety-seven per-cent of Japan's land area. • Japan has the world's tenth-largest population, with over 127 million people.

  3. History of Japan • The earliest-known pottery belongs to the Jomonperiod. • The main cultural and religious influences came from China. • The first permanent capital was founded at Nara in 710, which became a centre of Buddhist art, religion and culture. • Democracy was problematic, because Japan's powerful military was semi-independent and overruled—or assassinated—civilians in the 1920s and 1930s.

  4. Food in Japan • Sushi -Sushi can be defined as a dish which contains sushi rice, cooked rice that is prepared with sushi vinegar. There are various kinds of sushi dishes. • Chazuke -Chazuke is a bowl of cooked rice with green tea and other ingredients, for example, salmon or tarako (cod roe) added to it. It is a suitable dish for using left over rice. • Soba -Soba noodles are native Japanese noodles made of buckwheat flour or a mixture of buckwheat and wheat flour. Soba are about as thick as spaghetti. They can be served cold or hot and with various toppings.

  5. Schools • The schools in Japan operate on a basic idea of elementary school. • In Japan education is quite compulsory till middle school. • The students of high school do not drive the cars. They either walk or travel by bus or train. • Every school has their unique uniform. • In the school all the students have small lockers where they keep their private positions and change their street shoes to school slippers. • In schools, all the classes have many small teams. These teams do many activities like cleaning the classroom, yards and halls.
