  7. Step 1: Application • Applyonline at www.bakersfieldcollege.edu • Usually takes 4 to 24 hours to clear • Redo the application if it didn’t work the first time.

  8. Step 2: Orientation All new matriculating students must participate in: • Live orientation on 2nd Wednesday at 3:00 in Forum • OR • Online orientation quiz at counseling webpage

  9. ESL Orientations For students whose primary language is not English, call 395-4479 to make an appointment for ESL Orientation. All sessions are from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m.

Step 3: Assessment • English • Reading • Math • Not required for non-prerequisite classes • Walk-in testing (2.5 hours) • Monday 8 am to 6 pm • Tuesday 8 am to 2 pm (except 1st Tues.) • Friday 8 am to 10:30 am Bakersfield College Assessment Center is located in the Finlinson Conference Center

  11. ESL Assessment • Seating is limited • Call 395-4479 to make an appointment • If English is your second language (you speak another language other than English with your family), it is highly recommended you attend ESL Assessment.

  12. Step 4: Counseling • All matriculating students must see a counselor at least once • During open registration, students may register prior to seeing a counselor • To make a Counseling Appointment • Go to the Student Services building Or • Call 395-4421

  26. Odds and Ends • Tuition is $20 per unit • Waitlist for closed classes • Repeat class once policy • Apply for Financial Aid • Health Services available

  27. Financial Aid • Apply for Financial Aid in the Financial Aid office or online at www.fafsa.ed.gov • FAFSA response mailed within 4 weeks • Return to Financial Aid Office • Follow up to be sure all documents are in order

  28. Health Services • $13 Mandatory Student Health fee Qualifies you for FREE health services • Treatment of illness and general problems • Some prescription medications available • Limited physical exams • Temporary rest area

  29. “Gades” ID Card • The Gades card is FREE • Check cashing ID • Add money for printing in library or Career Center • $15 fee to support the Student Government Association leadership (SGA) is optional. The fee provides you with: • 5% discount at bookstore • 4 Free Basketball game tickets • One free legal advise at Chain and Younger • Other discounts around town
