Problems Associated with Ignition System of a Car

The ignition system helps to start your car. Electrical issues leads to failure of the ignition system. Issues in the steering wheel binding can cause the ignition system to fail. A worn ignition cylinder does not allow the car to start. The below-mentioned slideshow tells about the problems associated with ignition system of a car.

  1. Problems Associated with Ignition System of a Car

  2. The ignition system is the main source for starting the engine of a car.

  3. Ignition switch problems can cause unexpected shutdowns or electrical problems.

  4. You must be aware of the mechanical and electrical reasons for ignition problems.

  5. Steering wheel binding

  6. The ignition cylinder is mechanically connected to the steering wheel lock.

  7. It prevents the driver from steering the car without the key.

  8. Sometimes, you turn off the engine with the steering wheel turned or turn the steering wheel after turning off the engine.

  9. The steering wheel lock can bind and prevent you from turning the ignition.

  10. Worn ignition cylinder

  11. Over time, the mechanical keys and key cylinders used in your car's ignition system tend to wear out.

  12. Also, the heavy keychain can add more stress to the ignition cylinder, increasing wear.

  13. After a while, the key may fall out of the cylinder or be unable to turn out of the lock position.

  14. An unworn key may not turn a worn ignition cylinder, as they haven't worn in the same pattern.

  15. Ignition switch fault

  16. The car’s ignition switch is connected to the ignition cylinder by a shaft or lever.

  17. Inside the ignition switch, several contacts connect vital electrical systems needed to start and run the car.

  18. Worn ignition switch contacts, temperature problems, or broken springs can all cause the ignition switch to fail.

  19. Also, poor ignition switch contacts could shut the engine off while driving, which could be dangerous.

  20. Immobilizer problems

  21. Modern cars with immobilizers use transponder keys to enable or disable engine starting or running.

  22. The chip in the key transmits a specific code, & if this code matches the ones programmed into the car, engine starting is enabled.

  23. An incorrect key code, such as from an unprogrammed key or damaged key, would prevent engine starting.

  24. A broken immobilizer antenna wiring can prevent the engine immobilizer from reading transponder codes.
