  7. Kingdom: Fungi FEBRUARY 27TH, 2012

  8. Fungi Basics Fungi cells are like plant cells (they have a large vacuole, cell walls) but are lacking chloroplasts. Because they can’t produce their own food, they use special roots called hyphae as decomposers or parasites. Fungi reproduce using spores, which are different than seeds in that they are haploid, and don’t contain as much nutrient yolk. Two haploid fungi combine gametes to produce a diploid fungi, which can once again produce spores. Fungi alternate generations.

  9. Fungi Categorization Fungi are divided into three main Phylum: Sac – spores contained in long sacs. Ex: yeast and truffels Club – spores grouped in clusters. Ex: mushrooms Zygote – spores launched from stalks. Ex: mold

  10. Science Fair Bring your science fair work on Wednesday for 45 minutes of work time (on USB, printout). • Organizing data or creating your scatterplots • Peer editing • Converting research paper  posterboard • Preparing interview cards • Finishing the poster-board display
