  3. STORIA The history of Lazio is close to that of Rome. • Inhabited by many peoples, such as the Etruscans (the most advanced of all). • 753 BC foundation of Rome. The legend of Romolo e Remo. • The Roman Empire (Julius Caesar – Caligula – Nero – Augustus …). • Decline of the Empire – presence of the Catholic Church in Rome– the Papal States were created. • Foreign rule (Spain, France [Napoleon]…). • 1870 – Italian unification. Lazio was incorporated into the Kingdom of Italy.

  4. L’ECONOMIA • Agriculture is the main traditional source of income. • Industrial development in Lazio is limited to the areas south of Rome. • 75% of the working population are employed in the services sector (Rome).

  5. LA GASTRONOMIA Amatricianasauce, based on guanciale(cured pork ckeek), pecorino romano cheese and tomato. Originates from the town of Amatrice, in the province of Rieti. Carbonarasauce, based on eggs, cheese (pecorino romano or parmigiano-reggiano), bacon (guanciale or pancetta) and black pepper. From Rome.
