  2. Rev Up your Engines... • Complete the following WebQuest on Careers in the Technical and Vocational fields. The courses offered at Greenport are just the beginning to what could be a very enjoyable and lucrative career path!

Introduction • “Choose a job you love, and you will never have to work a day in your life.”- Confusius • After taking this course, and/or other technical/vocational/BOCES courses have you ever wondered if you could turn this into a career path? • In this assignment you will research a possible career from one of the area(s) of study that you have completed or have an interest for in the Technical/Vocational field. • This assignment will make you aware of possible career opportunities in these various fields that interest you!

Webquest Assignment • Task Criteria: • * Browse multiple websites relating to the course/field that you are interested in or are currently enrolled in. • *Research will include information on educational needs, experience, scope of responsibilities, estimated income, and other characteristics of the job. • * The research you have collected will then be placed into an informational PowerPoint presentation. Getting Started... • *Browse through several websites (provided or found) until you find a Career that interests you! • *Gather information on your chosen Career and read through the information provide to get an accurate description of the career. • *Reminder.... be sure to meet the criteria/questions in your own PowerPoint presentation.

Guidelines for Presentation • Process • Minimum of 5 Slides • *Slide 1 • Course Name, Your Name, Name of Job/Career • *Slide 2 • Give a description of the job. • Job Market Location(Hotspots) • Training needed(On-site, eduction, apprenticeship) • *Slide 3 • Where can you receive the Training/Education? • How much will it cost? • Are there continual educational requirements/certifications that are needed • *Slide 4 • Discuss High School skills/courses that may be beneficial to this job/field that you may or are currently enrolled in. • Job outlook in local/State level? • Job outlook Nationally/Internationally? • *Slide 5 • Specific/Required skills needed • Salary/Benefits estimate for this job/career • Other supporting information useful to a person(s) interested in this field

How you will be assessed • *PowerPoint Slideshow 70% • Basic Rules to Follow • -Keep it simple. • -Bulleted lists, no Paragraphing • -3 C’sClear, Concise, Correct Information • -Keep font size LARGE • -Avoid: Too much information, Dark backgrounds with dark texts, multiple transitions, sound and visual effects(never work out as planned) • *Presentation (30%) • -Make eye contact with your audience • -Body Language(No excessive hand or body movements • -Elaborate on bulleted points • -Speak clearly, confidently, and non-monotone voice • -Avoid filler words(Umms, Ahhs, Likes.... you get the point!)
