There are three main types of Rhetorical Appeals: Logos (Logical Appeal) , Pathos (Emotional Appeal) and Ethos (Ethical Appeal). • Public Speakers ,Companies or other businesses strategically use these appeals to get consumers to buy their product or to get the consumers to believe in a certain idea or way. • Now that you have a concept of what Rhetorical Appeals are, lets analyze each rhetorical appeal… The Appeals

Logos or Logical appeal is the appeal to one’s sense of reason. • Various strategies that businesses and other companies use to appeal to your sense of reason include: Statistics, facts, common sense, research, compare/contrast, interviews, personal experience, observations and anecdotes. Logos

  9. Pathos or Emotional Appeal appeals to one’s emotions, and is a way of convincing an audience of an argument by creating an emotional response. Often, advertisers tap into your emotions, beliefs, sexual desires, etc. to persuade you to buy a certain product or believe in a particular way or idea. These ads, commercials, speeches, etc. can make you feel elated, sad, angry, disappointed, encouraged, motivated and basically every emotion you possess. Numerous advertisements contain pathos and we will explore and analyze some of those ads. Pathos

  15. Ethos or Ethical appeal is the rhetorical appeal that establishes trustworthiness or credibility of the source, whether it is a speaker, ad, business or commercial. To establish trustworthiness and credibility, companies and businesses use various strategies such as stating personal qualifications or experience, using first person pronouns, using specialized language, allusions and humor.   21. Aristotle often taught that a speaker’s ability to persuade an audience is based on how well they appeal to that audience in three different areas: Ethos, Pathos, and Logos. Considered together these appeals form what many Rhetoricians call the Rhetorical Triangle. The triangle represents that in a persuasive literary work, all three appeals should be included and balanced. For instance, often Pathos is used to create credibility and Logos is often used to create credibility or the Ethical appeal. Logos can also be created my establishing trustworthiness.
