Component projects Zooplankton studies: Co-ordinators: Olafur Asthorsson, Ulf Båmstedt Z1:Distribution, abundance, and species composition of zooplankton in cross-frontal and cross-ridge transects of the mid-Atlantic Ridge. PIs: Tone Falkenhaug, Webjørn Melle (Norway) Z2:Feeding behaviour and swimming mode of gelatinous zooplankton and nekton. PIs: Ulf Båmstedt (Sweden), Marsh Youngbluth (USA) Z4: Trophic structure of major copepods, euphausids and fish larvae across the mid-Atlantic Ridge. PI: Asthor Gislasson (Iceland)

Pelagic nekton studies: Co-ordinators: Uwe Piatkowski, Olav Rune Godø PN1:Longitudinal and latitudinal changes in mesopelagic/ bathypelagic nektonic fauna (fish, cephalopods and crustaceans) along MAR. PIs: Uwe Piatkowski (Germany), Tracey Sutton (USA) PN2:Interactions of mesopelagic and bathypelagic fauna with the benthopelagic community associated with MAR seamounts/ slopes. PI: Åge Høines (Norway), Bernd Christiansen (Germany). Associated study (PN3): Cetacean and seabird distribution, migration and behaviour (Skov, Nøttestad, Waring)
