  5. Start at the beginning • Inch lines are the longest • Lines on a tape measure go across the tape • Often the numbers are to the side of the line

  6. 21/2 31/2 41/2 11/2 1/2 Half Inch Lines 1/2 • The next longest lines are the half inch lines • Half inch lines are in between the whole numbers 1/2

  7. 1/4 E A B C D Quarter Inch Lines ¼ ¾ • Quarter inch lines are ¼ and ¾ • Shorter than the ½” line, but not the shortest line • ¼” line is closer to the smaller number • ¾” line is closer to the larger number 3/4 Now you try
