Hyperbole. A big exaggeration, usually with humor. Examples:. I am as hungry as a horse Mile high ice cream cones I nearly died laughing I tried a thousand times I’m hopping mad My heart hit the floor People exaggerate to emphasize something like a feeling, effort, or a reaction.

  2. Examples: • I am as hungry as a horse • Mile high ice cream cones • I nearly died laughing • I tried a thousand times • I’m hopping mad • My heart hit the floor People exaggerate to emphasize something like a feeling, effort, or a reaction.

  3. More Examples… • "He is as big as a house!" • "I'm so hungry I could eat a horse!" • "That's the worst idea I've ever heard." • "You are the prettiest person in the world!" • "This book weighs a ton" • "This is the worst film ever made."

  4. What else can you think of? • Let’s make a list of more hyperboles. Can you think of any more? • In your Writer’s Notebook, write down at least six hyperboles you like best.

  6. Comic Strip Rubric: Create a comic strip containing at least four hyperbole. Your comic strip should have eight slides. Please create words for each slide. After ALL writing is finished, you may illustrate your comic strip. • Eight slides=16 points (2 points per slide) • Four hyperbole=16 points (4 points per) • Illustrating=4 points • Creativity and neatness=4 points • Total Points=40 points
