  3. Introduction A function generator is used in many engineering fields to generate a wide variety of synthesized electrical signals such as the sine, square, triangle and ramp functions. These signals are used for testing and diagnostic applications.

  4. Each workstation in the EE Undergraduate Circuit laboratory is equipped with Agilent 33120A function generators which can generate a variety of waveforms such as a sin, exponential and cardiac function. In addition, the HP33120A can generate arbitrary waveforms that you create and download from memory. By using Inruilink software you can create and output arbitrary waveforms. Each of the waveforms can be adjusted through the front panel controls or remotely for frequency, amplitude and DC offset voltage.

Setting Amplitude Voltage for Agilent 33120A Function/Waveform Generator As you might have already noticed that when you set voltage say 5V P-P on the Function Generator you seem to get double the voltage on the Oscilloscope like 10V P-P. The Main reason behind this is mentioned in pervious slide In order to Change the output impedance of the function generator to High Impedance , proceed with the following steps. 1.Switch on the Function Generator. 2.Press Shift Menu to get A: MOD MENU. 3.Move across using (>) button until u get D: SYS MENU. 4.Now move down twice using (v) button to get 50 OHM. 5.Now Press (>) button to get HIGH Z . 6.Press Enter to save the Feature. 7.Now the Function Generator’s Output Impedance is set to High Impedance Mode. Make sure when u switch the Function Generator off it automatically goes to the default value (50 Ohm). So u need to repeat the procedure every time u switch it on.

  6. The front panel has two rows of keys to select various functions and operations. Most keys have a shifted function printed in blue above the key. To perform a shifted function, press Shift (the Shift annunciator will turn on). Then, press the key that has the desired label above it. For example, to select the AM (amplitude modulation) function, press Shift AM (the shifted version of the key). If you accidentally press Shift , just press it again to turn off the Shift annunciator.

  7. To set the output frequency At power-on, the function generator outputs a sine wave at 1 kHz with an amplitude of 100 mV peak-to-peak (into a 50 termination). The following steps show you how to change the frequency to 1.2 MHz.

  8. 1 Enable the frequency modify mode. The displayed frequency is either the power-on value or the previous frequency selected. When you change functions, the same frequency is used if the present value is valid for the new function.

  9. 2 Enter the magnitude of the desired frequency. Notice that the Num annunciator turns on and “ENTER NUM” flashes on the display, indicating that the number mode is enabled. To cancel the number mode, press
