  1. Building the capacity of non-government organisations Michael Tennant Department of Trade, Business and Innovation 25 September 2017

  2. The NT economy is transitioning from record high levels of investment associated with the Inpex Ichthys LNG project … The Ichthys LNG project has driven growth in NT GSP over recent years. Over 2016-17 and 2017-18, GSP growth is expected to moderate as the Ichthys project transitions from the construction to operational phase. Short-term GSP growth will be supported by the NT Government’s infrastructure spending and consumption. A short-term catalyst for change will be the roll-out of the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS).

  3. GSP contribution In 2015-16, construction was the largest single industry in the NT, the majority of this construction was resource-related. However the NT has a significant Government and community services industry, contributing 20.1% of economic activity. Changing the way that governments deliver human services can create economic development opportunities in regional and remote areas of the NT.

  4. The labour market will also undergo adjustment as project construction activity decreases … Employment Growth and Unemployment Rate Forecasts 2016-17 – Employment grew by 2.8% reflecting the continuation of peak workforce on the Ichthys LNG project. 2017-18 – Employment growth is forecast to weaken to 0.5%, supported by smaller scale projects. Unemployment will remain the lowest in the country, as construction workforce from Ichthys LNG project move interstate (exiting the labour force).
