Michael Faraday Rika
Biography • Born in 1791 in England • Son of a blacksmith, received little education • He got his start as an assistant • Famous chemist and physicist • Most influential in the fields of electromagnetism and electrochemistry • Died in 25 August 1867
Invention • Best known as the inventor of the dynamo • Discovered compound benzene, which is used in the production of drugs, plastics, synthetic rubber, and dyes
What is a dynamo? • Also called electric generator • Convert mechanical energy to electrical energy • Delivering power for the industry
Invented in 1831 Contain copper disk that rotated between the poles of a magnet Based on law of electromagnetic induction Produces direct current Faraday disk dynamo
Modern uses • Laid the foundation for hundreds of new technologies to be developed • superseded by AC electrical generators, which power the machinery of the modern world • Contribute to the development of the electrical engines
Work as an electric motor • Can act as electric motor, which is found in applications as diverse as industrial fans, blowers and pumps, machine tools, household appliances, power tools, and disk drives. • Not the first demonstration of an electric motor, but it was the first practical one • Became the basis for the design of all practical DC motors
