Tips on how to comport yourself during speech • Your Visual Image-Dress appropriately. • Your Entrance-Act appropriately and confidently. • Your Initial Communication-Pause and look at the audience, smile. • Your Posture-Don’t lean on podium or wiggle around! • Your Movement-Limited and purposeful. • Your Gestures-For support and reinforcement of your verbal message. • Your Facial Communication-EYE CONTACT! and facial animation. • Your Exit-Stay in control! Pause before leaving, and smile.

  12. Tips Cont. While practicing, pay attention to the following Rehearsing helps you internalize speech & develop confidence! “Talk” your speech—never just read your speech!!! Stage Fright is common—think positive (rehearsing eliminates much of your anxiety) -most listeners are sympathetic/empathetic to your feelings and needs • Projection (Loudly)-enough to be heard • Tone (Pleasantly)-enough to make your listener glad to listen. • Rate-not too fast or too slow. • Clarity-clearly spoken words—don’t mumble! • Pronunciation-properly pronounced words—if you aren’t sure of the correct pronunciation, look it up or change the word to one you know!

Additional tips • DRESS TO IMPRESS (PROFESSIONAL, NOT CLUB LIKE!!) • HAVE AT LEAST 5 TYPED AND SIGNED LETTERS TO THE JUDGES , NO ERRORS!!! • CHECK MEDIA IN CLASSROOM WAAAAYYYY BEFORE YOUR PRESENTATION DATE!!! • YOU MUST HAVE AT LEAST ONE VISUAL AID ASIDE FROM THIS POWER POINT- A COLLAGE OF PICS, AN ALBUM, A COLLECTION OF SAMPLES, A 30 SECOND VIDEO CLIP/MUSICAL PIECE –SOMETHING!!! • PRACTICE, PRACTICE, PRACTICE • POWERPOINTS ARE DUE TO ME ON MAY 11 • YOUR PERFECTED TIME SHOULD BE ABOUT 9 MINS. • ALL FONT SHOULD BE PLEASANT TO THE EYE AND LEGIBLE • COLOR CHOICES MUST BE PLEASANT AND APPROPRIATE TO THE TOPIC • USE YOUR RUBRIC AT EVERY OPPORTUNITY WHEN YOU PRACTICE
