  1. UPE Drives theme University of Nottingham PEMC Group WP2: Converter Topologies for High Speed Drives Drives Topologies and Machine Losses Modelling for High Frequency Drives Giovanni Lo Calzo Gaurang Vakil

  2. Project Plans & Objectives Utilise high switching frequency drives toward improving in power density Identify optimal drives topologies Machine losses modelling to be used in conjunction with PE modelling to evaluate drive efficiency and performances at drive simulation level Machine and PE prototypes building in order to test different topologies and validate simulations results

  3. Work done so far – Drives Topologies

  4. Work done so far – Drives Topologies

  5. Work done so far – Machine Losses Modelling

  6. Potential Outcomes & Exploitation Plans Identify novel drive topology to improve power density and overall efficiency Machine losses modelling to be used directly in Simulink/Plecs simulations without the need of FEM post analysis Evaluation of the efficiency of the complete drive topology (PE + machine) with only one tool Evaluation of the effect of high switching frequency on machine losses profile Dynamic switching frequency variation to seek for best overall efficiency at different loads
