  1. Accessing the Map: 1 Click on this link tosee the map in Google Maps 2 Click on ‘Edit’ in the top left hand corner of the screen Youwillneedto log in to a Google Account, in order tobeabletoedit the map. Youcancreate a Google Account byclickinghere

  2. Zooming in and out: 3 Click on the arrowsto move around the map. Click the + or – scaleto zoom in/out on different areas Eachplacemarkshows a site identified as a goodexample of one of the South Down’s National Park’s special qualities. Each is colour codedto show the qualitytowhichitrelates. This, forexample, is Stanmer Park, marked green for “TranquilandUnspoiltPlaces” The map zooms in to show incredible detail, withmany sites alreadymapped on

  3. AddingtoPlacemarks: 4 Tosee the site towhich a placemarkrefers, click on it 5 Ifyou want toadddescriptivetext, youcan type it in to the white box. Ifyouwouldliketoadd a photo, click on this icon at the far right

  4. Adding a Photo: 6 Whenyou click the ‘photo’ icon, this box shouldappear: Youcan copy and paste a link from the forum photos page or fromanywhereelse on the internet. NB: If the photoyou want to upload is a file savedtoyour computer, thenyouwontbeableto upload itdirectly. The best approach is to upload itto the South Downs National Park Online Forum – byclicking here andfollowing the instructions. Thenyouwillbeableto paste the link fromyour new photo on the online forum into the GoogleMaps box above.

  5. Adding a New Placemark: 7 Ifyou want to mark on the map a new, important site, youcanaddyourownplacemark. First, click the blue placemark button at the top of the map. Thiswill turn your mouse cursor into a little blue placemarkwhichyoucan drop at yourchosenlocation. 8 Whenyou have droppedit, the white box willappearaskingfor the name of the site, andanyfurtherdescriptionyou want toadd. In order to change the colour of the placemarkfrom blue, to fit with colour codingbyeach special quality (seeKey), click the blue placemark in the top right hand corner of the white box. Finish byclicking “OK”.

  6. Saving your changes: 9 In order to save the changes you have made, you must click Donebeforeyouquit the page.

  7. Tips: • Ifyou make a mistake, and move, add or delete somethingunintentionally, it is very easy torepair. • Afterevery change thislittleyellow box willappear at the top of the screen – ifyou want toundoyour action, just click Undo. • Ifyou make a change thatyoucan’tfix, then email us on ztyndall@britainthinks.comandwe can help solve the problem.
