  1. L D W AIR EXERCISE: S&L atLow Airspeed During the transition from normal cruise, power and airspeed will be changing, requiring rudder to maintain balance Power + Attitude = Performance Trim as required Maintain through: - Lookout scan, traffic, ref point, cloud - Attitude hold - Instruments, confirm performance - Increased drag will require increased power - Less effective controls - Adverse yaw is countered with rudder Regaining Normal Cruise During the transition from slow flight, power and airspeed will be changing, requiring rudder to maintain balance Regaining Normal Cruise from a flaps down config - (Carb heat Cold) - Full power BEWARE PITCH UP - Nose to level flight attitude - Reduce from full flap setting (as appropriate for A/C type) - As airspeed approaches cruise, set cruise power and trim OBJECTIVES: 1. To fly the A/C at a constant (low) speed in a constant direction, at a constant altitude and in balance. 2.To maintain a constant altitude whilst turning at low speed. 3. To regain normal level flight cruise speed. PRINCIPLES OF FLIGHT: Equilibrium - L=W constant direction, T=D constant airspeed. Wings level – constant direction, Balance for efficiency 1700 rpm + As shown = S+L at 60 kts SLOW FLIGHT L Power + Attitude = Performance D T Turning atLow Airspeed T W Power + Attitude = Performance AIRCRAFT MANAGEMENT: Throttle:- Smooth, positive movements Carb heat:- (May be required) Temps & pressures:- monitor HASELL HUMAN FACTORS: Information processing - aircraft configuration - training area Stress – reduced through exposure 2300 rpm + As shown = S+L at 90 kts
