  2. Introduction • He was born in Clermont on June 19,1623. • He was a French mathematician and scientist. • He had mastered Eulcid’s Elements by the age of 12. • He invented and sold the first calculating machine. • He also invented the syringe and hydraulic press.

  3. Background • His parents were Antoinette Begon-Pascal and Etienne Pascal. • He had two sisters; Gilberte, and Jacqueline. • He did not attend school. He was tutored by private tutors that his father hired. • Discovered mystical hexagram in June 1639. • Blaise Pascal died of cancer at the age 39 in 1662.

  4. Theories • Pascal’s Wager: If you believe God, and God exists, you gain everything. If you do not believe in God, and God exists, you lose everything. The Probability of God is 1/2.

  5. Contributions • Pascaline: The first calculating machine. • Arithmetical Triangle: He made it in 1653. Each horizontal line is made by the one above it. Each line number is placed by the sum of the number above and to the left of it.

  7. We believe that the Pascaline is his greatest accomplishment. It was the very first mechanical. calculating machine. It was invented in 1642. Many people use calculators today. They are very important to us. Many classes in school now require calculators.
