MBChB intercalated BMedSc • Associate Lecturer: • A level biology • Mentor to student teachers CAWC masters (MMEd) HEA and AoME doctorate (EdD) GMC- assessments (PLAB), health and disability (FY1) • Clinical & communication skills tutor • Clinical teaching (designated firm) • Clinical seminars TASME clinical teaching excellence award (FY2) • Honorary research fellow • Honorary clinical tutor • Personal Mentor (welfare tutor)

  4. Medical Education Medical education is based on the knowledge, skills and behaviours required for the effective teaching and training of doctors. It encompasses all stages of education from undergraduate through postgraduate education to continuing professional development. Medical educators and clinical teachers develop, deliver and manage teaching programmes and engage in scholarship and research into all aspects of teaching learning and assessment. AoME, 2008

  5. Academy of Medical Educators • Established in 2006 • The professional organisation for all those involved in medical education • Exists to provide leadership, promote standards and support • Network • Masterclasses • Journal • Conferences • Mentoring programme

Professional Recognition • AoME: • Associate Membership: commitment to our core values and an interest in future Membership or Fellowship • Membership: recognises the achievements of a medical educator across ≥1 domain (MAcadMEd) • Fellowship: recognises the significant achievements and professional expertise across ≥1 domain (FAcadMEd) • Aligned to: • HEA’s professional standards • GMC’s requirements of GMP • Recognition by Royal Colleges

  9. ...an ASME special interest group (SIG) started in 2011 Aims: • To foster an interest in medical education amongst trainees • Support trainee involvement in medical education • To influence medical education policy and practice • Develop systematic training in medical education and research • To create a forum for trainees to exchange viewpoints • To promote and conduct research initiated by trainees • To promote involvement throughout training and careers
