It is Christ that gives us the nourishment we need to bear the fruits of holiness. Embrace the Beatitudes Be rooted in Sacred Scripture Participate in the Sacramental life of the Church Persist in personal prayer Connect with family and community Seek out justice Practice the commandment of love Serve those in need, especially the poor, suffering and most vulnerable

And he opened his mouth and taught them, saying: “Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. “Blessed are those who mourn, for they shall be comforted. “Blessed are the meek, for they shall inherit the earth. “Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they shall be satisfied. “Blessed are the merciful, for they shall receive mercy. “Blessed are the pure in heart, for they shall see God. “Blessed are the peacemakers, for they shall be called sonsof God. “Blessed are those who are persecuted for righteousness' sake, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.

  8. Definition of OBSTACLES: Areas of life that slow us down or interfere with our path. Obstacles can be caused by ourselves or others.

OBSTACLES TO HOLINESS • SIN: could be the sin of others or ourselves • DOUBT or lack of faith • IGNORANCE or lack of knowledge/direction • FEAR: afraid of failure or stepping out with courage • APATHY: a person doesn’t really care • LAZINESS or lack of discipline • PAST HURTS: need for forgiveness • SELFISHNESS • FAILING to ask God to make us holy • OUTSIDE influences/temptations or attachment to worldly possessions

(CCC 1711) Life Issue and Beatitude Assignment • WHAT: a typed, two paragraph paper • HOW: 1) Select a life issue from the USCCB website (link on my blog) 2)Write a well-developed paragraph describing the selected topic AND the Catholic Church’s position. 3)Write another well-developed paragraph describing how one of the Beatitudes can be incorporated in a way to help bring about a Christian understanding of the topic and an approach to the issue that ensures the protection of human dignity. • WHEN: Due, Tuesday, October 7th!
