  5. Your day... • We will begin at 7:30 a.m.! Tardy bell rings at 7:30 & the day ends at 2:33. • The building opens at 7:05 a.m. • Drop Off Procedures and Safety • Buses arrive between 7:05 and 7:25. Students wait in the cafeteria until 7:20 and then may go to their lockers and get organized for the day. • Breakfast is served during this time. • Classes are 65 minutes or 42 minutes each with 3 minutes in between

  6. Electronics iPods, MP3, Cell Phones, etc • Students may listen to music on the bus but not in the school at all. Must be kept in lockers • Devices are to be off during the day unless given permission by a staff member. Devices should be off and out of sight otherwise. • Problems – cheating on tests, unwanted pictures taken or downloaded, text messaging, harassment • Items will be confiscated or held if they are used during the school day; Saturday Schools may be issued to repeat offenders

Dress Code • No Bookbags, Baggy Pants, Torn Pants or Clothing, or Frayed Edges • No disruptive or excessive holes in clothing • No Hats or Colored Hair • No Tank Tops, Spaghetti Straps, Bare Midriffs (Shoulders Must be Covered) • Shorts, Skirts and Dresses – Mid-thigh Length • Underwear is for UNDER your clothes • No Pajama/Flannel Bottoms • Flip Flops/Crocs should be avoided • No Yoga Pants/Leggings worn solely as pants

  10. 18 “mods” – about 20 minutes each • Language Arts and Math are 3 mods – 65 minute classes • Science, Social Studies and Specials are 2 mods – 42 minute classes • Lunch and ICE are 1 mod – 22 minutes each Bell Schedule

  11. The Team Concept • There are between 220-260 students in each grade randomly divided into two teams - 6A and 6B • Benefits of Teams – same teachers, communication, team meetings, rewards, projects, etc. • ICE – Interventions, Coaching, Extensions: Utilize Each Teacher!

  12. Teams 6A and 6B • Each team has a set of 5 teachers – Language Arts, Math, Social Studies, Science, Intervention Specialist • On August 18: Students will get their schedules at orientation and can walk the building and find their classrooms

  14. Grades GRADES A = 90-100% B = 80-89% C = 70-79% D = 60-69% F = 59% and below Superior Role is 4.0, Honor Roll is 3.5 to 3.9, Merit Roll is 3.0 to 3.49

  17. Lockers • Locks and combinations will be given out on August 18 at orientation • Lockers will be assigned during Open House on August 20 • Students must keep lockers locked at all times • Do not share your locker or give your combination to anyone

Parents: How can you help? • Encourage your child to talk with you and express how they feel • Share strategies with them on how to deal with teasing such as ignoring or walking away, finding a “safe” person or friend to be near, or asking an adult for help. • Encourage your child to participate in organized activities like music, sports, or clubs to meet friends and develop strengths • Teach your child to treat others with respect • Encourage good behavior • Set a good example

  21. Important Dates • June Advanced Placement Letters are Sent Home • June Summer Reading will be given to all fifth graders at the end of the year. Also on website. • June Grade Level Supply Lists on website or in CMS office. • August 18 Pick up Schedules & Locks – Walk their Schedule (Noon) • August 21 First Day of School
