Werkcollege assignment • Form into pairs • Go out and observe how people interact with machines (e.g. pinautomaat, NS-ticketautomaat, chipknip, HvA facilitycard oplader, Parking meter, kassa, etc.) • What works well for them? • What doesn’t work (so well)? • What do you think needs to be improved? • Watch your partner try use their mobile phone • What works well for them? • What doesn’t work (so well)? • Ask them what they use their phone for • Ask them what they like / dislike using their phone • What do you think needs to be improved on the phone? • Makes notes on their answers and then let them do the same exercise with you using your phone • Come back to the lokaal within 40 minutes ready to discuss your findings

  6. Homework • Go to three different places and watch different people using their mobile phones • Pick one person at each location and try to imagine what they are like. Think about: • What type of person are they? • What about their family • What is their job? • Why are they at the place you have seen them? • Why are they using their phone? • Why do the have a phone and how do they use it? • What do they like about their phone and what do they not like? (Note: do not ask them any questions - use your imagination, but be realistic) • Make notes in your dummy • Choose one of the three ‘proef-personae’ you have created and type your description of them on to no more than 1 side of A4 paper. • Include a photograph on the sheet, but not a photograph of the person you actually observed. Try to find a photo on Google or Flickr or even Hyves, you think fits the description you have written • Print out the A4 (B&W is fine) and bring it to next week’s werkcollege
