This document outlines the development of Engineering Ground Support Equipment (EGSE) tailored for the Herschel satellite, detailing the collaborative efforts between multiple institutions such as MPE, Astrium, and various instrument teams. Initiated in October 1999, the working group has held 45 meetings, leading to significant advancements like the CDMS Simulator for SPIRE and support for HIFI and PACS instruments. It covers the hardware setup and configuration challenges faced during acceptance testing, alongside the overall goals of ensuring smooth transitions between mission phases and improving reliability in satellite operations.

Major Goal: Smooth Transition between Mission Phases EGSE/IEGSE
EGSE Working Group • Started in Oktober 1999 • Goal: Common development of EGSE for ILT and IST • Up to now 45 telecons or meetings • Participants: • HIFI, PACS, SPIRE • Di/TOS • Project • HSC and • Alcatel • Astrium EGSE/IEGSE
EGSE/HCSS Set-up for ILT EGSE/IEGSE
EGSE for ILT • Common development: • CDMS Simulator SPIRE • Test Equipment Interface concept HIFI • Router HIFI • SCOS 2000 support Di/TOS • MIB support Di/TOS, HSC • First complete version: mid 2002 • Test Control PACS • TOPE Di/TOS, PACS • Out of Limit / Telecommand History ESOC, SPIRE, HSC • Available now • On-board Software Management ESOC EGSE/IEGSE
IEGSE/CCS for IST EGSE/IEGSE
IEGSE Hardware • The IEGSE is a common purchase by all three Herschel Instruments based on ILT-EGSE concept • Hardware set-up can be reconfigured to replace any failed system • The IEGSE has been pre-configured and tested at MPE on 20/22 Sep 04 by three instrument teams and HSC • The IEGSE has been installed at Astrium, Ottobrunn, and acceptance tested together with CCS on 15/17 Nov 04 • CCS/IEGSE configuration has been used for first WE tests of SPIRE and PACS (mid Dec 04) EGSE/IEGSE

IEGSE Overview EGSE/IEGSE
Bug in TOPE system of CCS SPR raised When a test procedure read a TM parameter not always the most recent value is read which seriously hampers CcsHandler When PACS/DPU and CCS/CDMU front end are started at the same time the first TC has to be sent twice NCR raised MIB – HPSDB bridge file conversion is not stable yet MIB changes required due new naming conventions for HPSDB Set-up of CCS seems to be complex Access to remote ICC sites not yet possible OBS upload not yet possible: ESOC OBSM sytem will be used Next EGSE WG meeting at Astrium, Ottobrunn, on 26 Jan 05 to discuss overall PLM EGSE situation Open Points EGSE/IEGSE
