  3. Religious Principles • The Boy Scouts of America believes that no member can grow into the best kind of citizen without recognizing an obligation to God. The Venturing Oath helps Venturers develop a sense of spiritual awareness as they promise to do their “duty to God”.

  4. How can we incorporate into Venturing? • Service at campsites • Sunrise service at scenic location • Evening vespers at scenic location • Grace before meals • Quiet, meditative time alone • Not all faiths worship on Sunday

  5. Planning a Scout’s Own • Consider age-appropriateness of all content. • Choose a location that promotes reverence. • Consider people’s physical comfort. • Include everyone – planning and during. • Short – 15 to 20 minutes. • Teach Venturers to respect the rights and feelings of others. • Choose inspirational passages.

  6. Elements of a Service • Call to worship • Hymns or songs • Scriptures or readings from a variety of religious or inspirational sources • Responsive readings • Personal prayer • Group prayer • Offering (World Friendship Fund) • An act of friendship • Benediction or closing
