  3. WORKBOOK • Units have 10 pages of tasks and exercises for independent work to extend and consolidate learning in the SB. • 1. start-up notes • 2. vocabulary • 3. comprehension • 4. grammar • 5. language practice • 6.grammar in use • 7. listening &speaking • 8+9 writing • 10. self assessment.

  4. HOMEWORK TASKS • THESE ARE SUGGESTED FOR EVERY LESSON OF THE SB. • WHERE TO FIND HOMEWORK? • This is usually independent work in the workbook or further independent work from the SB.

  5. SKILLS UNITS • There are 5 study and life skills-based units. • These appear after every other themed unit. • These units may take1-3 lessons and cover academic and personal skills. • Study skills 1: Editing • Life skills 1: Creating your CV. • Study skills 2: Dictionary overview • Life skills 2: Personal statement • Study skills 3: Exam strategies.

  6. PROJECTS • PROJECT ARE PROVIDED FOR EVERY PAIR OF UNITS. • The type of project and subject matter is based on skills learned in one of the previous 2 units. • They are intended for independent work, but notes to assist teachers in setting the project are given in the teachers’ guide on pp 172-174.

  7. REVISION PAGES These appear after every other unit in the WB, giving practice of work covered in the two preceding units.

  8. Word list Pages 138-140 in the WB list key words from the reading texts. Please use a marker and highlight these words before the start of the scholastic year2014/2015.

  9. DICTIONARY Grade 1 through 7 have their dictionary with the textbook package. Grade 8 through 10need Macmillan School Dictionary or the Macmillan Essential Dictionary. Please train your students to use the dictionary if they are not familiar with it.

  10. TEACHER’S DVD The DVD supplied with the teacher’s guide for use by teachers contains: The complete SB so that teachers can use the material on an interactive whiteboard. The SB audio files: all reading texts, dialogues and listening comprehension material. The EPB audio files for listening comprehension tests Video training sessions to assist teachers in classroom management and good teaching methods and practice. The authors’ views and comments on aspects of the course.

  11. EXAM PRACTICE BOOK 1. All four skills and “use of English” are examined after every second unit. 2. EPB needs to be kept with the teachers and given out to students for quizzes, unit tests, mid-term and final exams. 3. There is a progress chart at the end of the book (STS, parents and teachers can check when progress has been made. SB links to EPB : some lessons are marked.

  12. STUDENTS CD-ROM All the reading texts and dialogues are on the CD-ROM provided with the WB. Students can listen again to improve understanding, reading skills, pronunciation and intonation, and to check &revise.

  13. PLEASE: * Read the first 24 pages of the teacher’s guide for information on methodology on /about the units, the lessons, and the general approach to teaching these 8 lessons. * A more detailed explanation for each lesson of every unit is on page 25 and onwards.

  14. EXAM PRACTICE BOOK CAN GIVE QUIZES. CAN GIVE UNIT TESTS. CAN GIVE MID-TERM TESTS. CAN GIVE SEMESTER &FINAL EXAMS.
