  2. People are creative. And their creations sometimes slip you off your feet! Here are five unusual bars which one should definitely explore when looking for a drink. By: Soumya Jain A bar experience doesn’t just mean that strong drink. The ambience, theme and service are as much an important factor at the bar as that cocktail recipe. Some bars have understood that and made successful investments to astound their guests. And while there are many inspiring examples world over, we talk about five options here.

  3. Fragrances, Ritz Carlton Hotel, Berlin, Germany: At Fragrances in Berlin’s Ritz Carlton, customers are invited to sample drinks based on popular perfumes from brands such as Giorgio Armani, Bulgari and Salvatore Ferragamo. So sample cocktails that will remind you of Guerlain’s Shalimar or Jo Malone’s Pomegranate Noir. An interactive Hall of Fame includes exhibits, where guests can sniff the various scents and pick out a drink of choice. These drinks are even served in unusual items like an oversized strawberry with cotton candy or a birdhouse!

  4. Faraday Bar in Vernadsky Research Base, Antarctica: Get truly off the beaten path at the Faraday Bar, housed in Antarctica's Vernadsky Research base, making it the world's southernmost bar. The bar is a refuge for the 12 male Ukrainian researchers living there, along with passing tourists who pop in for a swig of something during the summer months. On one wall, a framed box - containing a small bottle of Jagermeister, condom and cigarette - hangs with a notice stating 'break in case of emergency'. What really makes the bar unique, apart from its location of course, is its policy where female visitors are allowed a free shot in return for their bra! These bartered undergarments dangle from their straps behind the bartender! Apart from that, enjoy views of wild penguins while sipping on drinks.

  5. AER Mumbai, Four Seasons Hotel Mumbai: Located on the 34th floor of Four Seasons Hotel Mumbai, AER Mumbai is not the highest bar in the world, or even in India, but is certainly one of the most posh. This rooftop bar obviously offers gorgeous sunset views, along with some flavorful alcoholic concoctions which are befitting of the Four Seasons trademark. The decor of AER Mumbai is simple and sleek. The white monochrome design is amplified by the curvaceous bar, while the undertone lighting makes it glow just the right amount with the candy-colored skies in the background.

  6. H.R. Giger Bar, Château St. Germain, Gruyere, Switzerland: Kudos to Mr. H. R. Giger who could even think of creating a bar like this! Made of bones, yes bones (!), this outlandish bar will give you the feeling of being inside the belly of an animal. While the description might be eerie, the experience is more of awe. Arches of vertebrae crisscross the ceiling of an old castle, creating a location which definitely demands a look. Mr. Giger was the Swiss set designer/artist/sculptor best known for his work on such sci-fi flicks as Alien, Dune, Species, and Poltergeist 2. Since 1998, he maintained a museum showcasing designs from his vast Hollywood career, as well as some personal works of art. The Gruyére bar is owned and operated by the museum, and is located across the street in a medieval castle. Now you know the source of the imagination!

  7. The bars at InterContinental San Juan: There is not one, but two bars, inside InterContinental San Juan hotel, which has me impressed. The first is the lobby located, plush Q Bar, which is half inside and half outside. The inside part is glamorous while the outside part includes beautiful fire features with a view of the water. And they do serve a mean Bloody Mary! The second is the Akua Bar, which is placed inside the hotel’s pool! So if swimming bushed you, just perch yourself on the mosaic stool and sip on a cool drink. You don’t even need to get out of the water! InterContinental San Juan has put quite a focus on the bars.
