The common and widespread belief that Indian consumers are forever on the quest for the cheapest and best; is being proactively challenged by quite a few notable Indian premium brands that have cropped up in recent years. The Indian economy has grown in leaps and bounds in the last two decades and has had a significant impact on consumer purchase behaviours. Yes! There is still a market for consumer products and services that are easy on the pocket and are appropriately priced to cater to a general middle-class economy. However, there has been a rise in Indian luxury brands that cater to the movers and shakers in the country. India’s share of millionaires and billionaires has grown in the last few decades and Indian brands are proactively wooing these wealthy and influential individuals with premium products and services. Now sarees cost lakhs of rupees, and there is an active buyer base for premium Indian wear that is lapping up these luxury offerings.
