  5. Team Hoyt • Team Hoyt is a father “Dick Hoyt” and son “Rick Hoyt” from Massachusetts who compete together in marathons, and triathlons(鐵人三項).

  6. Birth of Rick Hoyt • Rick has cerebral palsy(腦性麻痺), caused by loss of oxygen to his brain at birth because his umbilical cord(臍帶) was wrapped around his neck. • Doctors encouraged the Hoyts toinstitutionalize(交給慈善機構) the baby at the young age ,because he would be nothing more than a “vegetable”

  7. Birth of Rick Hoyt • Rick’s mother, Judy Hoyt, once said, “There is no way we will ever put our son away. We love him. He is ours. We will work with him and bring him to the place where he can reach his greatest potential. We will never, never put him away simply because he is different”

  8. The Begin • Fund raiser, 5-mile race • “Dad, I want to do that” • The victory came in Rick’s tapped out words, “Dad, when I’m running, it feels like I’m not handicapped.” • As a father, he shared in that joy by stating, “Making Rick happy was the greatest feeling in the world”

  9. Competition • Train: Dick started to train himself to be a runner, though he was out of shape. In order to participate in triathlons, he started to learn swimming. • So far, they have complete 1009 events, according 234 triathlons, 89 half marathons, and 67 marathons

  10. Record • Marathon 2:40:47(world record 2:04:55) • Ironman Triathlon 13:43:37(WR 11:43:58) • Biked and ran across the USA in 1992: 3,735 miles in 45 consecutive days
