  2. Eat Well Age Well as part of Food Train and funded by the Big Lottery, aims to contribute to the prevention, detection and treatment of malnutrition and dehydration among older adults living at home in Scotland.

  3. Testing Change: Small Ideas Big Impact Grant scheme The aim of the fund is to prevent, detect or treat malnutrition and support older people to eat well, age well and live well. We want to encourage people across Scotland to help us in our quest to reduce the number of older people who are at risk of becoming malnourished or are already malnourished. There is currently a lack of evidence for around malnutrition in the community so we want projects that can make a difference and that will generate evidence to influence policy around malnutrition and hydration.

Testing Change: Small Ideas Big Impact Grant scheme How much money can we apply for? • You can apply for any amount between £50 and £5000 • Your project or activity can be a one off event, over a number of weeks or months or for longer – as long as is concludes and is evaluated by Feb 28th 2020. • Two rounds of grants 70k available

  5. Testing Change: Small Ideas Big Impact Grant scheme Who can apply? Any individual, community group, voluntary organisation, registered charity, social enterprise and workers in the public sector can apply. You can be a carer, a dietitian, a neighbour…essentially everyone can apply!

  6. Testing Change: Small Ideas Big Impact Grant scheme What can I apply for? There are many ways to help. No matter how big or small, we would love to hear your ideas. We will consider all requests if you can show that they contribute to the main aim of this fund: toprevent, detect or treat malnutrition and support older people to eat well, age well and live well. It is therefore expected that projects will integrate food into planned activities.

Testing Change: Small Ideas Big Impact Grant scheme • We expect the things that we fund will have added benefits for older people too, and we’d like you to tell us if the activities you plan will help address any of the risk factors below: • Supporting mental wellbeing • Supporting access to food and drink • Increasing physical activity • Reducing social isolation and/or loneliness

Testing Change: Small Ideas Big Impact Grant scheme • What can I apply for? • Project ideas…. • Increasing cooking skills of older people which may help them maintain a balanced and varied diet • Incorporating a food aspect into a physical activity project e.g. offering lunch club after walking group • Staff training which could be incorporated into a food project (e.g. REHIS Older Peoples Course)  • Peer support or befriending projects linked to food

  9. Testing Change: Small Ideas Big Impact Grant scheme • What we will fund • Costs that you need to set up and run the project. This might include: • Any items (e.g. equipment, materials) that may be required to help you deliver your project idea • Additional costs of employing someone to prepare or deliver the project • Other resources that might be needed for your project e.g. venue hire, food for events, training sessions • Volunteer travel and or expenses • What we will not fund • Any ongoing costs to continue what you are already doing e.g. staff costs, administration costs, rent/utility bills

Testing Change: Small Ideas Big Impact Grant scheme Questions to consider when applying • Will the project or activity prevent, detect or treat malnutrition and support older people to eat well, live well and age well? • How will you identify and target malnourished individuals through your project or activity? • Does the project or activity address one of the risk factors linked to malnutrition in older people? • Does the project or activity integrate food in some way into your planned activities? • Is the project or activity new or a new development to current work? • Can we measure what your project or activity hopes to achieve?

Testing Change: Small Ideas Big Impact Grant scheme • How to apply • On line grant application • Downloaded from the website and either sent via e-mail or by post • Application Form • About you – organisation/individual details • About your project – what does your project intend to do? How do you know there is a need? • How much will your project cost? • How will you evaluate your project?

Testing Change: Small Ideas Big Impact Grant scheme • Opening and Closing dates • Round 1 Launch October 2018 • Provisional closing date 7th December 2018 • Decisions will be made by end of January 2019 • Project and evaluation must be completed by end of Feb 2020 (we will agree timescales with you) • Round 2 Launch May 2019

  13. Testing Change: Small Ideas Big Impact Grant scheme What happens if I’m not successful? You can request feedback and have a chance to revise your application for the second round of grants. Eat Well Age Well Team: Innovations Officer – Help plan and support organisations/individuals to form their ideas and plan project Project Dietitian – Help with nutritional guidance and support for projects Impact and Policy Officer – Help with measuring impact and evaluation of project
