  3. INTRODUCTION • MPUVN is the Nodal agency of Ministry of New and Renewable Energy Govt. of India, for promotion of New & Renewable Sources of Energy (NRSE) in the State of MP • MPUVN is the State Designated agency Under Energy Conservation Act 2001(Ministry of Power; Govt. Of India) for promotion of Energy Conservation activities in the State of MP

  4. Major Programme • Solar Energy (Thermal & Electrical) • Wind Energy Programme • Biomass Power (Gasification, Co- generation & Combustion) • Biogas Energy (Fuel & Power Gen.) • Biofuel • Integrated Rural Energy Programme (IREP) • Remote Village Electrification Programme • Energy Conservation & Management • Other New & Renewable Energy Technologies.

  5. About MPUVNL • Responsible for: • implementing programs and policies of the Government of India as well as the State Government for the promotion of renewable energy in the state; • implementing energy efficiency programme in the state; • conducting energy audits for suggesting ways of saving on conventional power; and • creating awareness about the benefits of energy conservation and renewable energy among users of various form of energy.

  6. Power Scenario in MP Sector & source wise power scenario in MP • As on 30 June 2011, Installed capacity: 8475.67 MW • Dominated by thermal generation • RE Installed capacity: 3.15% • Private generation: 2.84% • State generation: 53.54% Power-supply position • Energy deficit in Madhya Pradesh : Well above National figures • During April 2011- June 2011 • energy deficit :-15.7%against national figure of -6.6% Source: CEA

  7. Administrative Arrangements

  8. Potential of Renewable Energy • Madhya Pradesh endowed with diverse forms of renewable energy sources (wind, biomass, small hydro, solar) • High solar radiation with more than 300 days of clear sun & solar potential upto 5.8 kWh/sq.m. Solar Potential * Source : MNRE data 2009

  9. Renewable Energy Projects - Scenario

  10. Opportunities in Wind • Proven Sites Capacity – 1200 MW • Present Wind Power Installed Capacity - 270 MW • Projects Under Processing/Implementation - 800 MW

  11. Opportunities in Wind • Gross Wind Potential is 5500 MW, however till now technically proven sites is only 1200 MW • Plan to install new wind monitoring stations • More sites expected to open up for investment (Being undertaken)

  12. Wind Power – Installed Capacity

  13. Opportunities in Biomass • Gross potential of Biomass Based power in MP - 1040 MW • Installed Capacity : 25 MW • Expected commissioning in 2010-11: 30 MW • Biomass based power plants take about 24-30 months time for Commissioning • All projects are in IPP mode (through private investors)

  14. Biomass Power - Potential

  15. Biomass Power – Installed Capacity

  16. Opportunities in Solar Energy • High Solar energy Potential • State endowed with high solar radiation with around 300 days of clear sun • State offers good sites having potential of in the range of 5.5 to 5.8 kWh/ sq.m. for installation of solar based power projects • Land database being set up to facilitate faster allocation of land • Solar Energy Park being setup in Rajgarh District • Draft Solar Energy Policy issued & expected to be finalized soon

  17. Opportunities in SHP • Summary of the Basin-wise power potential of SHP on small rivers, hilly streams and canal heads is as below Source : WRD Madhya Pradesh

  18. SHP SITES IDENTIFIED BY WRD/NVDA/MPPGCL

  20. SHP SITES IDENTIFIED BY WRD/NVDA/MPPGCL

  21. SHP SITES IDENTIFIED BY WRD/NVDA/MPPGCL

  22. Achievements & Future Targets

  23. Solar Energy Park at Rajgarh • 2 hrs away from Bhopal Airport • 363 Acres of wasteland reserved • 220 kV sub-station on site • Insolation in the range of 5.5 to 5.9 kWh/ sq. m & more than average sunny days GaneshpuraDistt.- Rajgarh (Identified site) Bhopal Indore

  24. Solar Energy Park at Rajgarh • To provide support infrastructure like business centre, security, evacuation infrastructure, warehousing for spares • Development in 3 phases proposed at a total outlay of approx. Rs 20 crore • State support & PPP methodology to finance the project • Target to set up 50 MW solar energy based power generation capacity by 2013 • Potential to develop a manufacturing hub for Renewable Energy sector • Opportunity under JNNSM to promote domestic manufacturing

  25. Special Area Development Program (S.A.D.P.) List of locations identified under SADP by MNRE for Madhya Pradesh Centralized Kitchen Scheme for five other institutes have also been identified

  26. Solar Power Packs for Tribal Hostels • Identified 68 residential schools & hostels • Approx. 5000 students to benefit by uninterrupted power supply in remote & rural locations • Work order issued • Target completion by Jan 2012

  27. Solar PV Program in Naxal affected area

  28. Solar PV Program in Naxal affected area– 27 Sites in Balaghat District

  29. Solar PV Program in Naxal affected area • Training program conducted for Police staff in Balaghat district (March 2010) • Participation from In-charge officers of 28 police stations District : Balaghat

  30. Support for Wind site monitoring stations • M.P. has a gross potential of 5500 MW but the technical potential is only 1200 MW • Currently only five sites (stations) under monitoring by C-WET/ MPUVN • Proposal • Support required for 30 wind monitoring stations for the state in next 2 years • 80% MNRE grant
