  2. After the continental army fought the battle of white marsh in 1777, Valley forge served as a winter quarters for general George Washington’s soldiers. George chose valley forge because. . .

  3. It was only twenty-five miles away!

  4. It was close enough to Pennsylvania to keep a close eye on the british

  5. It was far away enough from the British to make sure they wouldn’t launch any surprise attacks

  6. The high ground at mount joy and MOUNT MISERY made it very easy to defend

  7. This Sucks! • As good as a place this was to cozy up for the winter, there were still some problems. • Lots of horses died from the extreme weather and starvation as well • They had to build there own huts using wood from miles away • Disease raided the army because of the cold and damp conditions • There main source of nutrition was from a food they called “FIRECAKES” a tasteless but organic bread made out of flour and water. Until they hired Christopher Ludwig, a master baker that made them fresh bread, they were stuck with fire cakes • Phenomena killed over 2,500 men during the winter

  8. Valley forge was very cold in the winter, like freeze your toes off cold, literally, our of all the 12,000 soldiers, only 1 out of 3had shoes! This resulted in tracks of blood leading to the camp!

Reinforcements • Womenand even children relatives of the enlisted soldiers helped with the army's struggles by • Nursing Sick/wounded soldiers • Doing laundry and repairing soldiers clothing • Provided morale for all the exhausted, dying soldiers • The women and children worked very hard, for half rations, half wages, and half the pension than any soldiers got. There was only 1 woman for every 44 soldiers, so help was limited. Some women and children were even killed in battles while trying to retrieve supplies from dead soldiers.
