  3. - A key link needs to be established between the research aims and the individual questions via the research issues. Issues and questions can be determined through a combined process of exploring the literature and thinking creatively . SPSS Survey aims: to explore the factors that might explain the reasons that Islamic University of Lebanon candidates give for undertaking a MBA program:

  4. Decide on a Layout and Sequence SPSS - Questionnaire should has a title. - Date of the version should be printed on the questionnaire. - A brief introductory statement. - Contact and return information should be included on the questionnaire. - Standardize by using as few question types.

  5. Question Types SPSS - Open vs. Closed - Single vs. Multiple responses - Ranking - Rating

  6. Open vs. Closed Questions SPSS Open question : What do you think are the reasons for football hooliganism? Implies a whole range of replies Make very precise judgment of each individual Closed question :Do you think football hooliganism is caused by: (tick if appropriate)

  7. IF your questions cannot be categorized until all the replies are returned then ensure that sufficient space is included for the question and leave a space in the margin to code a numeric response. SPSS e.g. What was the main problem you encountered with your wheelchair?

  8. Single Questions SPSS - Only one box should be ticked Which of the following means do you use to travel to college? One variable Declaration Multiple Questions - Tick as many boxes "tick all boxes that apply". Which is your most usual means of traveling to college? Three variable Declaration

  9. Think about this : SPSS Never be tempted to use the following structure You will have problems when summarizing these results

  10. Ranked Responses SPSS - Only one box should be ticked Each option should be coded as separate variable (5 variables)

  11. Rated Responses SPSS Each of the four rows will form a separate variable contains numeric code from 1 to 5

  13. Be Concise and Unambiguous SPSS Concise: Make questions brief and clear Bad: "do you believe that the UK should have a bicameral parliament?" Good: "do you believe that the UK should have upper and lower houses of parliament?" Ambiguity: Check for ambiguity Bad: "have you been to the cinema recently" Good: "have you been to the cinema in the last two weeks?"
