  1. Faculty Faith Formation O+Gorman Junior High and High School

  2. Sioux Falls Catholic Schools Mission "...to form a community of faith and learning by promoting a Catholic way of life through Gospel values and academic excellence."

  3. New Evangelization We wish to confirm once more that the task of evangelizing all people constitutes the essential mission of the Church… Evangelizing is in fact the grace and vocation proper to the Church, her deepest identity. She exists in order to evangelize, that is to say, in order to preach and teach, to be the channel of the gift of grace, to reconcile sinners with God, and to perpetuate Christ’s sacrifice in the Mass, which is the memorial of His death and glorious resurrection. ~ Pope Paul VI

  4. Survey Track A: becoming Protestant • Over half join evangelical communities • Why they left Catholicism: • 71%- spiritual needs not being met • Why they became Protestant: • 81%- enjoyed new faith’s services and worship • 62%- felt called by God

  5. Survey B: Becoming a “None” 71% unaffiliated by age 23 Why they left Catholicism: 71%- drifted away 65%- stopped believing in teachings Why they became a “None”: 42%- don’t believe in God/teachings 33%- have not found the right religion

  6. New Evangelization Evangelism is calling people to be disciples of Jesus Christ, both as individuals and as communities, in their personal and collective lives. Evangelism is “to serve men and women by revealing to them the love of God made manifest in Jesus Christ”~ Blessed JPII

  7. Survey Catholic breakdown: • Priests - .04% • Religious - .10% • Lay People – 99.86% Personal witness more powerful than teaching from hierarchy! Lay Catholics are apostles in their own right!

  8. New Evangelization 3 fold plan: Faith:  Inviting Catholics to a deeper relationship with Christ, and a deeper understanding of and relationship with his Church, and knowledge of the faith.

  9. New Evangelization Worship:  Inspiring confidence in the gospel and the teachings of the faith expressed in a vibrant community and sacramental life, most intensively in the Eucharist and Penance, but also through Marriage and greater appreciation of the family as the domestic church.

  10. New Evangelization Witness:  Strengthening of our understanding of the Christian vocation lived through a public witness to Jesus Christ and to the life and dignity of the human person where believers, living out their vocation to be witnesses, affirm the freedom of religion and work to transform society through living and sharing their faith in Jesus Christ and giving recognition to the life and dignity of the human person

  16. Discernment The single most critical personal and spiritual skill for a lay apostle is discernment. Lay Christians need formation in order to adequately discern: ƒ Their God-given talents and spiritual gifts; Their personal call or vocation; ƒThe leading of the Holy Spirit; The meaning and value of temporal things; ƒ The creative application of Church teaching to specific situations.

  17. Discernment To be able to discover the actual will of the Lord in our lives always involves the following: a receptive listening to the Word of God and the Church, fervent and constant prayer, recourse to a wise and loving spiritual guide, and a faithful discernment of the gifts and talents given by God, as well as the diverse social and historic situations in which one lives.
