  1. Charlie and the Chocolate Factory By: Nathan Lichwalla

  2. Characters • The main characters are Charlie, Mr. Willy Wonka, and Grandpa Joe. • Other characters are Grandpa George, Grandma Georgina, Grandma Josephine, Mr. Bucket and Mrs. Bucket. Some other important characters are Mike Teavee, Augustus Gloop, Violet Beauregarde, and Veruca Salt.

  3. Journey • The big journey in this book is through an amazing chocolate factory. Mr. Willy Wonka owned the chocolate factory. He did not let anyone inside the factory for many years because people were stealing his recipes. In this book 5 children were allowed to take a special tour of the factory because they found a golden ticket in a Willy Wonka chocolate bar. The children and their parents (and one grandparent) went on an incredible journey in the best chocolate factory in the world.

  4. Challenges • Charlie Bucket: Charlie was a very poor boy. His family did not have any money. They did not have enough to eat and lived in a broken down house. The family only had one bed and all 4 grandparent slept in the bed. • Augustus Gloop: He is a bad boy because he is greedy and he doesn’t listen. Mr. Wonka told Augustus not to touch the chocolate river but he did not listen. Augustus was shoving chocolate in his face and fell into the river and went up a huge pipe. He got stuck in the pipe. • Violet Beauregarde: All she ever did was chew gum. She was chewing the same piece of gum for 3 months and she stuck it behind her ear when she couldn’t chew it. All she cared about was gum and she did not listen when Mr. Wonka told her not to chew the gum that came out of the Great Gum Machine. She turned into a giant blueberry because the gum was not ready the blueberry pie was not ready it will make you a blueberry. But Violet did not listen she ate it. • Veruca Salt: Veruca is a spoiled brat. She wants everything she sees and has a complete tantrum if she doesn’t get it right away. Her parents give her whatever she wants when she wants. She wanted one of Mr. Wonk's trained squirrels that knew how to find bad nuts. Mr. Wonka told her not to go near the squirrels but she didn’t listen and squirrels thought she was a bad nut and threw her in the garbage. • Mike Teavee: All Mike Teavee does is watch television all day. He is also rude and does not listen. Mr. Wonka has a very dangerous Television Chocolate Room and Mike is shrunk because he touched the invention when he was told not to touch. He was made the size of a mouse and had to be stretched out again so he is 10 feet tall and very skinny.

  5. Importance • Charlie Bucket’s journey is important because he is a very poor and hungry boy. Charlie’s family does not have anything. All they have to eat is cabbage soup. When Charlie wins the golden ticket it is a good thing for his family because they also get a year supply of free candy. Charlie and Grandpa Joe are happy and excited to go to Mr. Willy Wonka’s factory. The other bad children are not happy. They are just greedy and rude and bad things happen because they don’t listen.
