Main activities • 6 months training programme • Practicing professionals with considerable experience • 6 areas of specialization • Selection of fellows a consultation process • Recommended • BSc/BA minimum • 2 years of experience • Expertise (not generalist) • Role in fisheries development • Short course development • Need based • Cooperation (short course development team) • Local flavour • For people that don‘t qualify for the 6 months training • Government as well as the private sector • Local ownership

The six-month training in Iceland Orientation (1 week) Introductory course (5 weeks) Fellows should gain a holistic view of fisheries and be able to put their own fisheries into an international and/or regional perspective Fisheries Policy and Planning (6 weeks) Resource (stock) Assessment (6 weeks) Quality Management of Fish Handling and Processing (6 weeks) Fishing Technology (6 weeks) Sustainable Aquaculture (6 weeks) Management of Fisheries Companies and Marketing (6 weeks) Project proposal Research project – Final report and presentation (14 weeks) Must address important issues in fellow’s home country

UNU-FTP and CRFM cooperation • Since 2007 • 14 fellowships (Belize, Antigua and Barbuda, Jamaica, Surinam, Guyana, SVG, Barbados, Haiti, St. Lucua (+15 Cuba) – research papers on CRFM and UNU-FTP websites • 5 short courses: • (Leadership in Fisheries (2), • Data analysis and Stock Assessment (1, 2), • Project Cycle Management (2) • MoU

  7. Training Needs Assessment among member states • Sent to all CRFM CFO (heads of divisions) – PLEASE reply • Helps in determining the next steps in CRFM and UNU-FTP cooperation
