  2. Why NT Trevian Pony Baseball • Introduction – Board Members • History of NTTP Baseball • Belief in community-based baseball programs • Emphasis on developing the player • To make HS team or at least have confidence to try out

Why NT Trevian Pony Baseball • Field as many “competitive” teams as we can • 9 teams in 2013 (can change annually) • Historically very successful • 14A, 14B, 13B champs in 2013 • 14A, 13A champs in 2012 • NTTP enters 2 A teams (A1, A2) and two equal B teams • Intense, but not overbearing program to the exclusion of other activities and sports

  4. Our Goals • Provide clear choices for parents and players. • Develop greater appreciation for the game. • High level player development and baseball IQ. • Select players on principles of merit. • Keep them playing ball. • Fun, enjoyable experience.

Evolved into full-year program Fall Ball: New competitive fall league this year Tryouts in October (travel groups selected) Travel winter skills and conditioning Spring pre-season: practices and early tourney In-season tournaments 3 per team 14A to Omaha LSFBL season and playoff week Baseball operations oversight NTTP Program

  6. Multi-community input and evaluators. Two day evaluation process at all levels. Focus on player fundamentals: hitting, fielding, pitching, catching, speed, throwing and baseball IQ. Two age pools will be created Winter workouts will assist in player placement 2014 Try-Out Process

Tryout Skills Evaluated • INFIELD: Strength of Arm, Accuracy, Fielding, Range • OUTFIELD: Strength of Arm, Accuracy, Fielding, Range • HITTING: Balance, Contact, Power, Hands • PITCHING: Velocity, Command • CATCHING: Stance, Receiving, Blocking, Arm Strength • OTHERS: Speed, Hustle, Listening, Baseball IQ

  8. Commitment Policy • Commitment period starts with practices in early May (concurrent with house league), an early tournament and ends with completion of LSFBL tournament. • 100% participation is expected for all practices, league games and tournaments

Commitment Policy • The rules are simple ... • If you miss due to illness or injury, expect to bat last and play minimum innings next game, but coach has some discretion with board approval • If you miss a game for any other reason, you will not play in the next game. Player is expected to be on bench supporting team • For example, if you leave for a weekend getaway and miss two games, you will sit for two games.

  10. Winter Workouts • Optional program for players selected to a travel team • Weekday session focuses on skills development • Weekend session focuses on training and conditioning • Approximate dates are mid January to end of March

Spring House League • NTTP players must play spring house league • All/most NTTP players will play in Pony A house league • Pony A is a very competitive league comprised of travel-level teams from Glencoe, Wilmette, Ken-Win, Glenview, Highland Park and Evanston. • Spring house starts first or second week of April and runs through second weekend of June

Summer Baseball 13U Tournaments • Memorial Day • 4th of July (or thereabouts) • 1 additional 13U Summer Camp 14U Tournaments • Memorial Day • Omaha, College World Series • 1 additional • All teams will play in the LSFBL Summer Travel league • Travel season ends with LSFBL Championship, Sunday July 27

Scoring and rating aligned with NTHS methods Players will be selected into 2 age pools announced late October/early November A non-refundable $350 deposit is required upon selection to a travel team. Winter workouts allow greater insight Winter workouts not mandatory but recommended Final team placement in late January or early February 2014 Team Selection

  14. Additional Spring Games • Current plan is to enter A teams into one pre-Memorial day tournament. • We are considering a pooled team entry for B teams.

  15. Communication • Each team is assigned a board member liaison. • Each team will volunteer a “team parent” to assist in the coordination of team communication, transportation, etc. • Clear, open communication with the NTTPB Board. • Board liaison meetings with players, parents, and coaches.
