  3. Vision Learning gains for EVERY student EVERY day! At Tarpon Springs Middle School there is an expectation of excellence. It is our mission to provide a safe learning environment where all students leave prepared for high school. It is important to remember that teachers, administrators, support staff, students, parents and the community share responsibility for achieving the school’s mission.

  4. Student Attendance There are only 180 school days in an academic year. If a student misses: 1 day of school = they miss 332 minutes of instruction 3 days of school = they miss 996 minutes of instruction 5 days of school = they miss 1,660 minutes of instruction 10 days of school = they miss 3,320 minutes of instruction 15 days of school = they miss 4,980 minutes of instruction

  5. Get Connected to Portal • To obtain a parent portal account you will need your driver’s license and a clerk at the school will assist you in setting up your account • Email teachers directly • Allows you to check grades • Change address • Apply for magnet programs

O365 & Clever AVAILABLE FOR ALL STUDENTS Log in steps: • O365.pcsb.org • Username: R2.D2@pcsb.org • Password: unique to each student (same they have had since kindergarten). • Clever.com – select state and use same log in Benefits: • Onedrive for saving all documents • Free access to: Word, Excel, Sway, Powerpoint, Class Notebooks • Can be used from any location or device • One stop for all their needs • Clever has complete access to textbooks, programs and focus

ELECTRONICS PUT THEM AWAY! • Keep electronics in your locker during the day! • Off and out of sight • All communication with parents must go through grade level offices • They will be confiscated until the end of the day. <<<If you keep using it at the wrong time, your parent must come to pick it up>>>

LUNCH FUNDS • You can send in a check or cash • Go through the county website to add funds to your student's prepaid account at  www.myschoolbucks.com • Cost is $2.75 for lunch; a la carte items vary in price • Free or reduced lunch will carry over from last year for the first couple weeks of school. You must reapply each year for free or reduced lunch through www.myschoolapps.com • FREE BREAKFAST FOR EVERYONE!!!!

  15. Athletics • Volleyball, basketball, track and field, cheerleading • Forms needed: • Updated physical (completed less than 1 year ago) • Participation form • School insurance (no exceptions)

BULLYING • 3 elements of bullying: Repeated, intent to harm, imbalance of power • Ways to report bullying: • Report it to trusted adult (teacher, principal, coach) • See Something, Say Something https://www.saysomething.net • On the PCSB website: go to Student Services, click on bullying prevention and intervention, then click “report incidents”

  22. What should I expect from my student as they enter middle school? • New people will enter their lives and different behaviors may arise as a result of this. Open communication, patience, and understanding will go a long way. • Students may become more independent and will fight the notion of parents interfering in their lives. Establish the idea that you have the right to question, inspect, and investigate anything going on in their lives.
