The demand for liposuction shows no sign of dwindling, even in a recession. In an age where obesity is a major concern in the western world, Plastic Surgeons are very busy removing litres and litres of unwanted fat. This demand looks set to continue for years to come until we eventually get a grip of the western diet and wake up to the obesity epidemic that is gripping the west. In my thirty years in the cosmetic surgery industry, liposuction has had a mixed press it has to be said. The issue was always achieving a balance of the correct quantity of fat removed and a good contoured shape. Unfortunately, in many cases too little or too much fat was taken resulting in bumpy, uneven results which Patients didn't like. Over the past ten years or so, modern liposuction equipment has improved and results are getting better all of the time. Recently there has been further innovation in the fat removal world with the introduction of a new machine called "vaser". Vaser liposuction claims to remove unwanted fat but in a gentler and more precise way. The idea behind vaser is that the surgeon has greater control over the quantity of fat that is removed and the exact location. Vaser also breaks the fat down without the usual trauma associated with traditional liposuction. This gentler method means less bruising and swelling and a faster recovery. In modern Plastic Surgery, patients are indeed demanding fast results and fast recovery. Everyone leads such busy lives these days and weeks and weeks off work are no longer an option in the modern age. No wonder then that vaser liposuction seems to have caught the publics imagination. At present it seems that there are not quite enough Doctors to meet current demand. This is especially true in London where some clinics actually have waiting lists. Good vaser doctors are in high demand and especially for so called " high definition" procedures such as the male six pack. For most of us a six pack is probably very wishful thinking, but with vaser lipo it is possible to have fat removed and your shape improved on a Friday and be back in work on the Monday. Indeed vaser lipo doctors report that Friday is their most requested day. Patients have time to recover at the weekend without having to take any holiday days from work. Of course, this is not a treatment without any side effects. You must expect some bruising and swelling after a vaser lipo operation. The amount depends somewhat on the size of the area to be treated and your own reaction to the surgery. It is wise to take at least a couple of days off to give yourself a little time to recover. Vaser liposuction is not an excuse for a good diet. After the surgery you will still need to watch what you eat. Many Patients have asked me if they can put the fat back on after surgery. The answer to this question is yes. If
you gorge on food and drink after a vaser liposuction operation you will get fatter. This is the case for any liposuction procedure. To be fair most people to spend upwards of two and a half thousand pounds, so tend to look after themselves once the fat has been removed and the body shape has been improved. The Vaser liposuction is a push in the right direction to better control of diet and exercise. Some people are so motivated after having vaser liposuction that they start a whole new fitness regime. This is not essential of course, but studies have shown that if you do look after yourself and keep fit, then the results can improve even further in the months that follow the surgery. So if you are interested in liposuction take a close look at vaser liposuction. It could set you on the road to a better shape and a healthier future. Setting up small learning groups, or communities, in your class requires planning, not just in your instruction, but also in the physical space of your room. When I decided to change my teaching style from a teacher-centered, lecture format to a student-centered, project format, I had to seriously contemplate how my room and its instructional resources were arranged. I knew I wanted to set up student 'pods' of four to five students. Four makes a great sized group, but five is starting to push it. These sizes also fit with the number of computers I had available. Each pod needed one computer for the group to use, as well as workspace, achieved by placing desks next to each other forming a table. I placed the pods at the outside walls for a few important reasons. First was to get some elbow space between students and groups. I wanted to eliminate interaction between groups so students could concentrate on their own group's activities. Secondly, this arrangement allowed me to monitor the computers at all times. Third, this setup created better traffic flow through the room, since students would often need to move back and forth to the central resource center. I've set up the resource and presentation center in the center of the classroom. This is where I keep student file cabinets (the short types), dictionaries & thesauri, school supplies, and art-type supplies. I've combined this storage area with my podium, overhead projector, and the other tech equipment like vcr or dvd players, digital projectors, and the like. This allows for easy student access to all resources, and I can effectively use all of my wall space when I need to present material. The 'traditional' classroom and the 'student-centered' classroom are very different both in philosophy and in the application. The basics of setting up your classroom to reflect the learning environment you've envisioned must be thought through carefully before jumping right into the pods. Having previously ตตต Vazer one taught in the traditional manner, I've found the pod setup, or student-centered class, to be both a challenge and a benefit to student learning. Now that I've had a chance to compare them, my
students and I prefer the pods. -------------
