Welcome to the 2011 Sky Ranch Parent Meeting. Camp Overview. Sky Ranch is a three day overnight camping trip for 5 th graders. Our trip is planned for Nov. 30 th -Dec 1 st . Besides being a fun adventure, our students will learn from TEKS based classes each day.

Camp Overview • Sky Ranch is a three day overnight camping trip for 5th graders. • Our trip is planned for Nov. 30th-Dec 1st. • Besides being a fun adventure, our students will learn from TEKS based classes each day. • Students will also have scheduled time for meals, planned evening group activities, and recreation time at Sky Ranch.
Chaperones • We need chaperones to have a successful camp! • Chaperones are required to attend classes with their child and are responsible for supervising their group. • Chaperones will sleep in the cabins with the students as well as assist them in the morning and in the evenings with sleeping preparations.
Chaperones are not allowed to smoke or have alcoholic beverages at camp. • Chaperones may not leave camp except in a medical emergency. • Chaperones are not allowed to leave the cabins at night for any other reason except for a medical emergency. • Chaperones will pay the camp fee of $170.50 and must pass the Frisco ISD background check, found on the website: www.friscoisd.org (parent page—”Volunteer form” link)
Transportation • Students and staff will ride FISD busses to and from camp. • Chaperones will ride in their personal vehicles to camp. Once at camp, chaperones will not be allowed to leave camp in their vehicles unless there is a medical emergency. • Once we have established a complete list of chaperones, we will do our best to help you arrange car pools if you would like to share a ride to and from camp.
Luggage • Students will receive a “What to Bring” form in their camp packet. Please use it as your guide. • Luggage for students will be loaded on an FISD bus on Tuesday, Nov. 29th at Rogers in the evening. • You MUST drop off luggage at this time for camp as this bus leaves early in the morning so our bags arrive at camp before we do. • Campers are limited to 2 luggage pieces. Usually, each camper has a suitcase for clothing and toiletries and a “bag” containing their sleeping bag/pillow/blanket. • Chaperones will transport their luggage in their personal vehicles.
Cost • Camp fee for a student this year is: $190.50 • Camp fee for a chaperone this year is: $170.50 • Fees include meals, classes, and cabin accommodations.
“A Day in the Life of a Chaperone” The day we arrive, we have an orientation with the Sky Ranch Staff. We will eat lunch and attend our first class in the afternoon. Early evening will have Recreation time, dinner, and an evening activity. After the evening activity, everyone returns to their cabins, students are expected to shower, enjoy a snack, and get to bed. Rogers Staff will stop by each cabin to administer evening medications, check on students, and say our “Good Nights”.
Day 2 On Day 2, chaperones will help students get ready for the day. We will all have breakfast together and go to our morning class. We meet for lunch and attend the afternoon session. Then we have Recreation time, dinner, and an evening activity. Again, all campers head back to their cabins for a shower, snack, and sleep. Rogers Staff will check the cabins at bedtime again.
Day 3 On the final day, chaperones will assist students with packing their luggage before breakfast and loading it onto the Sky Ranch carts. We will all eat breakfast together, attend our final class, and meet for lunch. After lunch, we will need several chaperones to load student luggage onto the luggage bus so it can return to Frisco. After a final check, we will head back to Frisco on the busses to arrive prior to 2:50. Students must ride the busses home and will not be allowed to ride with parents.
Food • Meals are included with camp fees. • There is an adult entrée provided for adults and a student plate for each meal. Dessert is served at each table for lunch and dinner. • Sky Ranch also has a salad bar that is available at each meal. • If you or your child has any dietary issues, please let me know, so that the kitchen at Sky Ranch can prepare a meal that meets your needs. • Sky Ranch has a souvenir shop and snack area where purchases can be made. Students would have to bring their own money to make purchases at these shops.
Snacks • We would like to provide each student with a snack bag and bottled water to enjoy in their cabin. • If there is a volunteer to organize this, we would love to have your help! • We will accept donations to purchase the snack items for the students. If you’d like to make a donation, send it to school with your child in an envelope marked: “Sky Ranch Snacks”.
Cabin and Class Assignments • Chaperones will be assigned to supervise their child and their class group during all daily activities. • Female chaperones will be assigned to sleep in cabins with female students. • Male chaperones will be assigned to sleep in cabins with male students. • Students will be given the opportunity to request cabin mates and are guaranteed to have at least 1 person on their list in their cabin. • Generally, there are 2 chaperones for 8-10 students in a cabin area.
Roger’s Staff • All 5th Grade Teachers, 1 Administrator, and our school nurse will be at camp at all times. • Teachers and Administrator will spread out between classes to check in with chaperones and students. • Our nurse will be available to tend to sick children and administer medications. • Roger’s Staff all sleep in a designated Staff Cabin.
Due Dates • Camp packets will be sent home with your child this week. • Parental Release page is due by October 13th. • Remaining Camp forms and Camp fee(s) are due by November 2nd. • The Medical Permission form must be notarized and Sheri Anderson—Data Clerk is available in the Rogers Office to notarize free of charge. • Please make camp checks out to: Rogers Elementary
Attending camp is a privilege, not a requirement. • If a student earns 2 office referrals before we attend camp, then that student will not be eligible for the trip. • If a student makes poor behavior choices at camp, we reserve the right to call parents to come pick up their child from camp. We have very high expectations that our students will show their best behavior at camp and make Rogers proud.
Students who do not attend camp If your child decides not to attend camp, they will still attend Rogers on camp days. Fifth Grade teachers will be creating lesson plans for the students, and they will be assigned to a Fourth Grade teacher’s class.
